They could catch some in a lie on a questionnaire.
Technically under 18 U.S.C. § 1001—the statute that typically covers false statements to federal officials they could be charged.
It does depend on the nature of the lie of course. However, the lying could be a predicate due an investigation.
Once someone is investigated it’s likely that they’ll find something (email, texts, recordings) and that could lead to a firing or forced resignation.
I’m sure Trump et al have this gamed out to deal with the difficult and dangerous cases.
