US Hockey team wants Trump at Canada final after fights

Bill Guerin, general manager of the U.S. men’s national ice hockey team, invited President Trump to Thursday’s 4 Nations Face-Off championship game in Boston following the president’s history-making visit to New Orleans for the Super Bowl.

“We would love it if President Trump was in attendance. We have a room full of proud American players and coaches and staff,” Guerin, who is also general manager of the NHL’s Minnesota Wild, said during a Monday appearance on Fox News’s “America’s Newsroom.”

“And listen, we’re just trying to represent our country the best way we can,” he added.

Thursday’s championship game of the first-ever men’s 4 Nations Face-Off tournament will pair Canada against the U.S. in a battle that may reignite the fighting energy displayed at their group-stage clash over the weekend, which saw three fights in the opening nine seconds. The U.S. won Saturday’s game 3-1.

Guerin, a three-time Olympian for Team USA during his playing career, said he thinks Saturday’s on-ice tension was increased by the current political standoff between the two countries; there were boos from the Montreal crowd during the pregame playing of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

“I think a little bit of everything. Canada-U.S. is a huge rivalry in hockey,” he said earlier in the interview.

President Trump’s recent comments about taking over Canada and even calling the northern country the “51st state” have been repeatedly rejected by Canadians. Outgoing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who attended Saturday’s game in Montreal, has called the annexation threats a “distraction.”

The president also hit Canada with new tariffs earlier this month in an effort to curb the flow of migrants and fentanyl from the northern border. But the tariffs were delayed for at least a month after the two leaders struck a deal.

We only want Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Alberta and maybe the Northwest Territories.

The rest of Canada is infested with leftist extremists.

I want to see Trump down there on the rink slugging it out with those Canucks. Knocking them down two at a time. And then . . oh sorry. I got carried away there. Maybe he should watch it in the comfort and safety of the WH.

No, not in Boston. The potential exists for a lot of booing of Trump. Boston is Prog, even the Bruin fans. I really cannot think of a traditional NHL city where he’d be 100% welcome. Based on his rally on Long Island, maybe the Islanders.

The Traditional U.S. hockey teams are limited to Rangers, Bruins, Red Wings, Blackhawks.

The rest are Canadian or Expansion. Of the expansion teams, I guess you could go with Tampa, Carolina, or maybe Columbus, Ohio. Carolina's roots go to the WHA New England Whalers. Tampa and Columbus, OH are REALLY recent.

The Minnesota North Stars were in the first expansion. They are now the Dallas Stars, I think the reception there would be pretty good. Too bad the Golden deals are no longer.

It has been said on this forum that a lot of hockey players were drawn to the game, because it provides a legal way to slug a Canadian in the face.

Thanks. I was just saying I couldn’t think of a traditional NHL town where Trump would be 90-10 welcomed.

Oddly I think this is a bad idea unless invited by Prime Minister Trudeau. His uninvited attendance would emphasis the differences of policy between Canada and the USA. An invitation from PM Trudeau would emphasis our mutual friendships. This is up to Trudeau. I would like to see them both in the same box with their flags rooting for their own teams in friendship.

PS
In Canadian USA relationships on trade if this was stud poker, Trudeau has three kings on the table and two in the hole one of which is a king. Trump has 3 aces on the table and two in the hold one of which may be an ace. Trump ups the bet for Alberta. I would suggest Trump wins. LOL

We are running low on fat food.
You mean like bacon?

No, why do you say that?
You said fat food.

I meant to say car food?
We need to buy gas?

No, not gas!
Cat Food!
(damn auto-correct)

I don’t think this is a good idea. Better to offer the hockey team asylum in the US or something like that.

The whole place is infested with leftists. Let them keep their country, who wants it? We already have enough of our own leftist extremist in this country, we don’t need to add to the total.
