The US Naval Forces have released photos showing the extent of the damage sustained on the US Navy aircraft carrier after it collided with a merchant ship last week.

The warship, named USS Harry S. Truman, has docked at a US naval facility in Souda Bay, Greece, while it undergoes repairs following the incident near the entrance to the Suez Canal.

The ship had collided with the Besiktas-M - a 617-foot-long, 53,000-ton bulk carrier registered in Panama. Both of the ships were traveling in the Mediterranean Sea when they collided.

The photos show extensive damage to the exterior starboard quarter of the 1,100-foot-long, nuclear-powered aircraft carrier.

The Navy confirmed that “the exterior wall of two storage rooms and a maintenance space … a line handling space, the fantail, and the platform above one of the storage spaces” were all damaged after the collision.

Yes, I immediately thought of him on this.

A little Bondo and fresh paint she'll be good as new.

Yeah that'll buff right out.

In reality it really is minor damage, It also looks like the Truman was hit by the freighter and thus more likely to not be at fault. Full investigation will tell the tale.

Sal’s quick coverage of the rescues of the MSC Baltic III’s sailors was excellent, too.

That chopper pilot must have stones of steel. Or, Titanium, maybe, since weight is a factor for aircraft...

The article doesn’t mention if a Suez Canal pilot was aboard for maneuvering the ship in the vicinity of the Canal. Might be a factor.

The crew will love any shore time they get at Souda on the island of Crete. Huge tasty shrimp - best I ever had.

Houthies driving the other ship?

Where were the destroyers and subs, ashore on leave?

Mothball them if you will not defend them....save the humiliation of a sinking.

I personally don’t think that anyone besides USN Personnel should be allowed to navigate Our Ships.

May they all enjoy their Shore Leave.

Thank You for Your Service.🇺🇸
