Photos reveal extent of damage to USS Harry S. Truman after Suez Canal entrance collision

The US Naval Forces have released photos showing the extent of the damage sustained on the US Navy aircraft carrier after it collided with a merchant ship last week.

The warship, named USS Harry S. Truman, has docked at a US naval facility in Souda Bay, Greece, while it undergoes repairs following the incident near the entrance to the Suez Canal.

The ship had collided with the Besiktas-M - a 617-foot-long, 53,000-ton bulk carrier registered in Panama. Both of the ships were traveling in the Mediterranean Sea when they collided.

The photos show extensive damage to the exterior starboard quarter of the 1,100-foot-long, nuclear-powered aircraft carrier.

The Navy confirmed that “the exterior wall of two storage rooms and a maintenance space … a line handling space, the fantail, and the platform above one of the storage spaces” were all damaged after the collision.

His last post was in 2019. For a number of years before that, he had told us about a serious condition, some kind of cancer if I recall correctly. He kept struggling, and at one point talked about how well he was doing. But toward the end, if I recall correctly, he indicated he was finally in the homestretch. He kept posting about Jeff Head things though. I don’t recall anyone ever posting that he had passed..

I liked him, and miss his presence.

There should be nothing allowed that close to any of our Navy ships much less a nuke powered aircraft carrier I don’t give a damn where we’re at in the worlds oceans !!!

Looks like the onboard trash incinerator will be “Inop” for awhile...it’s exhaust pipe got crushed pretty bad.
