If you were going to question a candidate for public office what would you ask?
I ask because I am aiming toward creating a standardized test for anyone who aspires to public office.
I am also exploring how to make that test mandatory for anyone who applies, and to make the results public.
So have at it.

You have presented yourself and may as a result swear a legally binding oath that you are willing to uphold and defend the Constitution of The United States of America.
You must now give answer to the people among whom you wish to effect and advance public policy by way of this examination.
The results of this test will be available to every citizen whom you are given to serve, and your fidelity to the oath of office will be under judicious scrutiny from the time you enter office to the time you leave it either voluntarily or by force of law.
That all sounds nice, but who typically tells the truth in a purity test in a confirmation hearing? i have a question for anybody seeking reelection. list your NGO affiliations. “Thats it. something you can verify and audit. mic drop.
Who is going to grade the responses?
Upon further review, I may have repoded prematurely. Think in terms of fidelity to the oath when asking questions of the candidate.
To do that, step back and consider the overall purpose in having a Constitutional Republic. It is to secure the blessings of liberty, and those are what?
Most candidates for public office don’t know the difference between a right and a privilege.
True or False: Every child has a right to a good education. Explain your answer.
The voter! It will be right there for themcto see. (If this scheme pans out at all.)
It need not be a Constitutional requirement. Just one that vigilant citizens may establish on a statutory basis.
Why are you applying for this job?
Are you an American Citizen provable by BC or proper papers?
Do you hold Citizenship elsewhere?
To whom is your greatest loyalty?
To whom is your 2nd greatest loyalty?
Your pay may be reduced at times do you still want the job?
Are you willing to sign a form you will show up on time and for all meetings, votes, etc.?
Exactly. Any candidate can “fake it.” But they need to know they are accountable from the get go.
If They fake their answers and then speak and act to create street violence, BOOM! They’re out.
So one of the essay questions should posit a scenario of public injustice, and how they would deal with it.
They need to take a constitution test.
I accept your evaluation of “the incentive pattern” to some degree.
My interest is simply practical in identifying an intercept point for normal people who by law ought notchave ignorant tyrants on the ballot, and the intercept point is *before* acceptance on the ballot with publicly declared fealty.
Statutory means a law. So, it could be challenged as to whether its Constitutional or not. Challenged at both the state Constitution and if necessary, at the federal Constitution level.
“Do you think that non-citizens should be allowed to vote?”
“Given that many things we do require a valid ID, such as buying liquor, cigarettes, cashing a check, or boarding an airplane, why should voting be exempted from this requirement?”
“Which Constitutional amendments, if any, do you think should be repealed or updated”?
Candidate is very broad. School board might be different from sheriff or Congress critter. Sometimes one issue is more important than others.
In IL corruption was the issue. Here in GA corruption so much smaller so relatively unimportant.
Strategy is key. To win you need to build a coalition. I am more pro illegal immigrant than most freezers. Trump welcomed those who were only 80 or 90 pct with him. That is how he won.
Many things to consider. Do you want to win? That is key.
Tell me what you are not allowed to do, and how the people of America, regardless of who is in political power, will be able to stop you from doing those things.
I don’t like the ‘gatekeeper’ concept in a free country. It’ll always come down to ‘who gets to put the questions on the paper’. I don’t like that.
The people who choose should be citizens in a private ‘booth setting’ casting a vote.
It’s bad enough that political consultants do the ‘choosing’ based on being able to support their families.
Anyone who holds public office and advocates for abortion thereby disqualifies themselves from the same, because in principle they advocate AGAINST the very things our Constitution is inscribed to secure.
But what do you do when that same promoter of death say, “Those are only words on paper from acient times and not attuned to the present age?”
So, gatekeeping fidelity to the Constitution is a no-no in your view?

Do you believe that your oath is a promise to God?
If you take the oath, is it too much to ask that you demonstrate publicly you know what that means?
It is fundamental that anyone who takes an oath explain why they are taking it, what they think it means, and how they understand themselves to be accountable once they take it.
The examination I would propose would seek answers along those lines, and in the candidate’s own words.
Those who honestly seek public service ought not, and will not, shy away from probing questions as to their principles.
