More than a dozen ill-prepared migrants, including five children, were caught trying to illegally cross into Canada in below-freezing weather that could have claimed their lives, officials said.
Alberta police intercepted four adults and five children from Venezuela who were trudging their suitcases through the snow in bone-chilling temperatures of minus-22 degrees Fahrenheit, The Guardian reports.
Canadian Police Assistant Commissioner Lisa Moreland told reporters the group was found struggling in the snow and “incredibly cold” weather, which put their lives at risk.
A second group of migrants — made up of six adults from Jordan, Sudan, Chad, and Mauritius — was located in a dense forest near Manitoba’s border.
Officials were able to locate the group in the frigid weather thanks to thermal cameras equipped on police planes flying over the forest.
Moreland said that in both cases, the migrants were wearing clothes ill-suited to the deadly cold temperatures in the region — as she called on migrants to avoid making such dangerous treks across the border because they often end in tragedy.
“There’s the cross-border piece, but also the humanity piece,” Moreland said of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s work surveilling the border. “[There have been] incidents where people did not make it.

Indeed.
Crossing from where ? Dumb media still stupid.
From USA ?
What, exactly, do the Royal Canadian PoPo mount these days?
They were seeking asylum...
They inspect people who travel with passports.
They crossed at Canadas common border with Venezuela. Wasn’t that obvious? 🙄

I hope they had time to warm up on the return flight!
“adults and five children from Venezuela, A second group of migrants — made up of six adults from Jordan, Sudan, Chad, and Mauritius”
How the heck did these people find the money to travel this far? They were either rich (in which case they had no need to “migrate”), or they were sponsored by someone.
Would it not have been easier to stay in a country along the way? No, they wanted the land of freebies,,,
Of course...Canada doesn’t have a land border with any other country but us.
The group with the kids is probably no threat but 6 adults from these countries should get a closer examination:
Jordan, Sudan, Chad, and Mauritius
Well if you cross into Canada, you’re coming from the good ol’ USA or the North Pole.
How did they even get that far into Canada?
“...they were sponsored by someone...”
Note that USAID ca$h outflow has been severely reduced at the moment....
“you’re coming from the good ol’ USA or the North Pole”
Or Greenland....
They have probably been living in the US for years and got scared by the prospect of Trump returning them to where they came from.
By getting into Canada they won’t get locked up with the drug criminals until deportation or sent back to their home countries. Venezuela is a hellhole, I don’t blame people for not wanting to go back there, and I don’t blame a Venezuelan who left because of the Communist takeover there for not wanting to be lumped into detention with the criminals and mental cases Maduro sent to flood the border the last several years, either.
Sudan,Chad and Mauritius aren’t vacation spots, either, and while Jordan is better still not great, so extending a stay in North America by hoofing it to Canada is expected. This middle Eastern group if they are adult males though, is probably sketchy.
There’s a couple of French Islands quite close by.
[Canoes are part of the essence of Canada.]
Should have gotten coats, hats and gloves from USAID before they became defunct.
