I think this is AWESOME news! Too bad Christopher Reeves could not have been the first.
This cannot turn out well in the end. They WILL abuse it... We WILL become the Matrix.
There is a line. And they are crossing it...
For Noland there is not much to lose, and a lot to gain.
Now to put this into a pilots’ brain for an interstellar trip, now that is a long way off.
But every sci fi story has a beginning.
And an ending?
I’ll respond not as a “Freeper” but an individual...that groupthink scares me JUST AS MUCH on the right as it does on the left.
I love FR...but we’re not the BORG.
If laws need to be passed..YES, sometimes laws are needed...restricting its use, so be it.
“NO MORE LAWS!!” will be the reaction.
Like speed limits? Slower limits driving down a school block at school time? Not being able to wave a knife around in a movie theater?
OF COURSE there are laws that are needed...if it becomes necessary here..then congress should make it so.
Representing the will of the people...and I’d like some checks put in place for this.
I’m mostly awed by Musk’s imagination and dedication to pushing frontiers. Most people would be satisfied if they did it once in their lives. He just keeps going and going and going - a real-life Energizer Bunny.
As for the connection, I’m torn. I can see dangers on every side. And yet...
I’m reminded of one of my favorite Star Trek episodes “The Menagerie”
The ending always gets me….
P.S. “The Domesday Machine” is my favorite.😊
We all move things with our brains - we just don’t have a chip.
Can he manipulate hot women to come to his bed
As an individual with a paralyzed
bracial plexus for more than 50
years, I find this tremendous news.
All those I’ve known at rehab
centers, who’s conditions were
far worse than mine, maybe a glimmer
of hope. The feeling of being
trapped, unable to move, dependent
on others for one’s existance.
Survival forces one to accept things
many aspects of indignanties.
The simple act of lifting your
child from their crib, to hold them
close. Was lost for me.
I think it’s awesome. I wish there was some way they could connect the chip in his brain with another chip just below the injured area of his spinal cord and make a sort of bridge over it so he could move the rest of his body, but this is a start.
“Puny” Freeper will be along shortly to tell us how “bad Musk” is an evil overlord!
I welcome this technology. Of course it’ll be utilized in an evil way somewhere down range. Everything man has ever discovered or invented has been used in evil manner. But it mostly turns out for positive uses in the end.
There are people walking around today that would be as Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Pol Pot, Kim Jung il if they had the means, and others would act as constructive altruistic agents.
And it is another level if dreams result in reality (as with the Krells) via this tech.

No need to be terrified as long as it’s voluntary.
Should we be amazed - or terrified?
Yes
I tried to move things with my mind after watching a Twilight zone episode. “The Prime Mover”.1961. I failed.
I’d take one to run a voice simulator, since I lost my vocal cords to cancer. This technology has the potential to give voice to the voiceless, hearing to the deaf, movement to the paralyzed and many other applications.
On the other hand it could be used for negative purposes. The Clint Eastwood movie “Firefox” had a pilot enjoying tremendous advantage over his opponents because his mind was technologically connected directly to his fighter jet, bypassing the milliseconds hand/stick controls require.
It’s going to be a new reality with some humans “enhanced” to have advantages over those that aren’t (police, soldiers, surgeons, athletes, etc.) and new rules and laws made to bring order to it. There’s inevitably going to be pain and injustices along the way but positive advancements and breakthroughs, too.
When AI evolves, why would it choose a human to do any task?
This technology will likely be limited to humanitarian uses.
