Elon Musk put a chip in this paralysed man’s brain. Now he can move things with his mind. Should we be amazed - or terrified?
The Guardian ^ | Feb 8 | Jenny Kleeman

... Elon Musk would ultimately turn this quality to his advantage when, after nearly eight years of being quadriplegic, Noland agreed to allow the world’s richest man to implant an electronic chip into his brain. In January 2024, Noland became the first human recipient of a brain-computer interface (BCI) developed by Musk’s company, Neuralink. If it worked, it would allow him to control a computer using only the power of his mind.

Only four months after he first heard about Neuralink, Noland was on an operating table, with a purpose-built robot poised to insert the N1 chip into his motor cortex. The stakes could not have been higher for him: he was risking infection, haemorrhage and brain damage. “My brain is the last part of myself that I really feel I have control over,” he tells me from his wheelchair at his kitchen table in Yuma, Arizona. But the stakes for humankind, too, were very great: if Neuralink succeeds, the world’s most powerful billionaire will have fulfilled his science-fiction-fuelled dreams of melding minds with machines.

What kind of person chooses to be Elon Musk’s guinea pig? And, once the experiment is over, what happens next – for Noland, and for the rest of us?

“What “groupthink” exists on the “right”?”

You are kidding right?

Anyone who even thinks outside the “mandatory box” here is stoned and burned at the stake by the masses. There is ABSOLUTELY group think on the right. Open your eyes, it happens right here all day long... But when someone is honest and points it out like I do they also get stoned and burned at the stake for their honest observations.

“I guess you would call a hammer a killing weapon.”

Has anyone been killed with a hammer?

Predictable or boorish doesn’t amount even remotely to groupthink. The demon party on the other hand are as perfect an example of groupthink as you may hope for. Remember how Kamala was transformed in to the most awesome candidate for president OVERNIGHT, for all, no matter what they thought of her the day before. Same with the smartest person in the room, Hillary. WHATEVER the line that come from on high they snap to INSTANTLY. They do this constantly no matter if a hundred and eighty degrees from where they were the moment before.

I think it’s awesome. I wish there was some way they could connect the chip in his brain with another chip just below the injured area of his spinal cord and make a sort of bridge over it so he could move the rest of his body, but this is a start.

No matter the source, radical extremism is the cause of most of our problems. And there are no innocent parties when it comes to radical extremism.

Bringing motor movement to the crippled and sight to the blind through electronic implants is wonderful!

Speed limits are used mostly to protect government entities from lawsuit and collect unlevied taxes. They are rarely about safety.

My own will is to applaud this technology, wherever it takes us. (Integrated powered armor ... just cool)

Yeah, and the development of vaccines to help humanity turned out well didn’t it?

Mostly this is absolutely true. It was really only the COVID case from the Deep State that was the exception. It seems "we" are rooting that out now.

It WILL end up being used to control and enslave people.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to just fence them in and make them work? Why do you think it would take an implant to enslave people? That has been done for millenniums without electronics. You make have gone to far down the paranoid anti-government path.

The point is, it almost destroyed the whole concept of freedom. We STILL do not have the freedoms we had before it. This will turn out the exact same way... It always does.

“Puny” Freeper will be along shortly to tell us how “bad Musk” is an evil overlord!

I welcome this technology. Of course it’ll be utilized in an evil way somewhere down range. Everything man has ever discovered or invented has been used in evil manner. But it mostly turns out for positive uses in the end.

“Wouldn’t it be cheaper to just fence them in and make them work?”

And this will be the new fence... We will be freerange controlled by remote. We will become part of the interlaced “internet of things” network. THIS was all predicted over ten years ago.

Civilization seems to cyclic. I think we might be in the "Forth Turning", which is prelude to collapse. Our gadgets are not what make civilization collapse. It is the decay of trust, honor, work ethic, and efficiency and so on that causes collapse. We are poised on the edge of an opportunity to reverse some of those trends; but, many choose to adhere to lack of trust and despair rather than working to restore it.

In the words of Odd Ball, "Have a little faith, baby, have a little faith".

We will be freerange controlled by remote.

Only if you fail to step up and "self govern".

You mean trust blindly without any question? Just submit to the overlords of technology because they are now being revered by the masses as Gods?

No... Apparently I see much clearer than most... We have already been warned about this...

Of course not. That is not how we are supposed to interact with our government.

Have you not seen anything in recent weeks that give you hope for the future?
