Let them eat beaver! A new bill aims to amend restrictions on what beavers Minnesotans can eat

Should Minnesotans be allowed to consume a beaver that damages their property?

It’s the third-biggest question surrounding the animals in Minnesota, right behind the age-old question of “How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?” and “Who eats beavers?”

A bill introduced by DFL State Senator Grant Hauschild aims to answer at least one of those questions by once again allowing Minnesotans to eat any nuisance beavers they killed.

Bad idea. The city of Malad, Idaho derives its name from French trappers who were sickened eating beaver from the local area. Beavers can withstand high levels of arsenic that are present in water in southeast Idaho. Eating the beavers from the area produced a "malady" from arsenic poisoning.

I have eaten beaver when we trapped a long time ago. Not bad but muskrat is more tender. Beaver is best smoked with apple wood.

In a serious context, beaver the animal, are very damaging to property and the homes of other wildlife. They are on my hit list. Shoot on sight. I don’t care about pelts. Nature’s scavengers clean up the carcass in a few days.

As a young kid, I used to trap these tree destroyers and yes the meat is dark red like beef and great eating, some say better than beef. Also makes great dog food. I used to get 20 bucks for a beaver pelt.
