Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass drew the ire of California wildfires victims Friday after suggesting during a meeting with President Trump that residents will be allowed to start rebuilding “right away” – when they haven’t even been allowed to see the devastation up close yet.
“No, that will not be the case,” Bass responded, when told by the president that he’s heard it will be 18 months before Pacific Palisades residents that lost their homes can start rebuilding.
Bass, 71, claimed that fire-affected homeowners “really shouldn’t have to go through much of a process” once city and county officials clear the hazardous material left on home lots.
The mayor’s suggestion that the process was being fast-tracked was met by disbelief and confusion from several homeowners in the back of the room of the Pacific Palisades fire station where the public meeting took place.
“So, I mean, we were told last night 18 months,” one resident told Bass. “So, if that’s not the answer, Mayor Bass, what is the answer? Because that’s what we were all told last night.”
Bass responded that the city and county are doing “everything we can – slashing regulations, expediting everything, so that people can begin the process right away.”
“You have to clear the lots. You guys are in charge!” another resident shouted at Bass.
“We were told last night by the Army Corps of Engineers that it’d be 18 months. Is it not 18 months?” a third resident asked the mayor. “That’s the answer that we got and that’s what we’re all hanging on.”

Although I don’t have Mr. Trump’s ear, I’m still of a mind to suggest that the Feds put California into receivership, dump the politicians, put in some people with a can-do attitude, and revamp the place to a semblance of what once was.
i read that ucla is planned to be a center for the la olympics. ucla is on sunset boulevard, which forms a boundary of the red zone on the la city fire map. it is only about 6 miles from the palisades. o used to live in hawthorne, but who wants to go to hawthorne to watch the onlypics? not me anyways.
It takes a minimum of 4-5 years in SoCal to secure a building permit and it will cost a bare minimum of $300,000 if you manage to get thru the paperwork in a reasonable amount of time without any problems. ADD at least 3 more years and $200,000 for the Coastal Communists Commission to give their blessing, which they WON’T DO as a matter of principle and you will likely be into it for $750K before you get permission to pound your first nail.

He easily could have met with these Dem liars in a small office. Instead, it’s a large meeting room with everything televised for all the world to see. Now, the whole world knows how awful Newsom, Bass, Sherman, etc., are.
Rebuilding must not be an option.
The destroyed houses are located within a known 50 year fire plain. Thus, they are no different from NC houses that can’t be rebuilt within a 50 year flood plain.
The precedent is long established and rigorously enforced.
Rebuilding is simply out of the question

On the subject of state or local response, why is North Carolina not working on the roads and bridges and sending the receipts to FEMA instead of people who don't have a pot to pee in or a window to throw it out of? They have had months to respond at the state level. Why is it that Tennessee is not complaining so much? They had similar damage to NC.
Bass is a hardcore commie African. She doesn’t believe in property rights. Next time, they need to “vet” who the hell they decide to vote for.
.gov makes up its own rules.
If we should have learned anything in the past couple of decades it is the only rule:
There are no rules.
What the citizens of LA should learn is if the rules & regulations around building right now are waved, they should be asking themselves, why were they put in place at all? If they were smart, they would learn its control of THEIR property by a gubmint entity.

I’ve worked for several cities and counties as a City Engineer, Public Works Director, and evene as a City Manager. It takes on average 6-9 weeks, minimum, to get a permit for a single family residence.
Those agencies I worked at served small populations of less than 30,000, and typically at 1 building official, and 2-3 plan reviewers/inspectors.
Just based on the shear numbers of homes destroyed, there is no way these people can expedite the permit/plan review process in a way that can get everybody building any time soon. Most of these homes will be one-off designs.
Then you have the commercial building projects that typically take 6 months or longer to get a permit.
The state, county, and city can waive the environmental, historic home, and other similar reviews that typically add needless time to the review, but California will not waive the plan review process. They have some of the most stringent building codes in the world and you couple that with the limited number of available qualified staff to perform these plan reviews and inspection, that this will create a bottle neck .
