Trump conveys ‘serious’ and ‘firm’ desire to acquire Greenland in call with Danish PM: ‘Danes now in crisis mode’

President Trump had a “firm” phone conversation with Denmark’s prime minister last week to convey his serious intentions of acquiring Greenland, according to a report citing officials privy to the talk.

Trump has been aggressive in his desire to make Greenland a US territory to bolster national security in the Arctic region — and has even refused to rule out using “military force” to get it.

The Danish government, which has ownership of the largest island in the world, has said Greenland is not for sale and will not be a part of the US.

Trump’s conversation with Danish PM Mette Fredericksen, in which he stood unwavering behind his intentions, did not go well, European sources familiar with the discussion told the Financial Times.

“It was horrendous,” a source said.

Another source said Trump “was very firm.

“It was a cold shower. Before, it was hard to take it seriously. But I do think it is serious, and potentially, very dangerous,” the person said.

A third source told the outlet, “The intent was very clear.

“[Trump officials] want it. The Danes are now in crisis mode.”

A fourth said, “The Danes are utterly freaked out by this.”

Trump’s team had previously relayed to The Post that the president was “100% serious” in his intentions on Greenland and also retaking the Panama Canal.

Why would the Danes in Denmark really care?

There are likely more Danish Americans than Danes.

Basic data, as comment in a similar thread. Repro'd here:
Denmark's population is about 6 million, compared to New York City's 8.

Greenland is considered a "self-governing country" within the "kingdom" of Denmark. Greenland's population is less than 60 thousand. Due to simple fertility demographics, that population is due to shrink rapidly now.

There will be many contenders for Greenland as time goes by. Conflict is assured. What form that conflict takes is as yet not assured. Tick tock.

--- "They're freaked out." With good reason. And President Trump has highlighted this. Guess what other global powers will come knocking.....

His offer will be the nicest, long term.

The Danes do have historical ties to Greenland. On the other hand, there is some precedent for them selling territory to the U.S. (i.e. U.S. Virgin Islands). And Vinland is already part of either the U.S. or Canada.

The original Danish settlers to Greenland died out sometime in the 13th or 14th century. The Danes living there now are more recent arrivals.

They thought that Trump winning another term was a joke as well. Until it happened. The Deep state spent too long in its echo chamber. Now they are in shock at having to face reality.

If fertility is a problem, Greenland could skyrocket population by importing Muslims, who are prolific breeders.

Time to call Luca Brasi. Make the PM an offer he can’t refuse.

Why not? It's worked well in Dearborn, and so in the Democrat Party and in Congress....

Correction: The last Norse settlers died out around 1500 A.D. as the climate had become too cold to sustain the small farming and fishing communities. Additionally, most of the original Norse settlers were from Norway and Iceland.

If Greenland is a self governing country can they simply sign a mutual defense treaty with the United States and Canada (hopefully Trudeau will be gone but he doesn’t seem to go away).

“ They’re freaked out. ”
They’re unable to take any stand or pressure in any situation.
They declared neutrality when WWII began and the Germans went in and occupied Denmark. I sure the Germans would have taken Greenland too if it weren’t for the US.

The world will be a safer place with the part of North America known as Greenland under U.S. control.

We’ve been footing the bill for the safety of Europe and the free world and have not been getting much to show for it.

The Danes can profit by selling Greenland, and we can manage it profitably and strengthen the security we’ve been maintaining for decades.

There are a lot of folks opposed to this simply because it’s President Trump’s idea. They need to take a look at the value and benefit of what he’s proposing. No one wants to invest in Greenland if it is not secure. It needs us to secure it and make it investable.

Those residents of Greenland will find themselves "encouraged" to make some decisions.

As to Denmark, its military can mount about two battalions in toto. This is going to be an interesting "NATO" issue over time, as two or more NATO nations will disagree.

:)

Denmark has no capacity to protect Greenland from Russia or Chicom invasion without the United States of America. They should sell it to us for a fair price. And then we will rename it RED, WHITE AND BLUELAND!!!

"Why would the Danes in Denmark really care?"

No kidding. How many Danes have visited Greenland? How many could find it on a map. When a purchase price is finally put out there, the Danes may change their minds.

Denmark has 6.00 million people. Greenland has 0.06 million people, 1% of their "Motherland." I cannot imagine there is much affinity between the two places.

90% of Greenlanders are of Inuit extraction. They are strongly admixed with early European immigrant strains. One-tenth of the people are Danish, most of them born in Denmark.

So 6,000 people in Greenland have some association with Denmark. That's not a strong tie.

On the downside, the national dish of Greenland is suaasat, a soup made from seal meat. If we acquire Greenland, will they export that dish to us?
