NEW YORK (WPIX) – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved a nose spray to help treat depression, Johnson & Johnson announced Tuesday.
Spravato is a first-of-its-kind medication to help manage treatment-resistant depression, according to the pharmaceutical company. The nasal spray can be given to people who haven’t seen improvements in their depression after taking at least two oral medications, according to Johnson & Johnson.
The main ingredient for the spray is esketamine hydrochloride, which is the “chemical cousin” of ketamine. Ketamine has been used by clinics across the U.S. to treat depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Spravato can only be administered by health care professionals, and patients must be monitored for two hours after administering the drug, according to Johnson & Johnson. It is given only to patients in the Spravato Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy Program.
Johnson & Johnson said patients taking Spravato could start to see results in 24 hours. It’s already been given to 140,000 patients worldwide.

Take my Vitamin D and get out in the fresh air and sunshine.
Ketamine has been under study and showing very strong results for PTSD treatments as well. Not sure (and I’m sure no-one is) how Eskatamine is different.
I can’t wait for all the TV ad musicals with people dancing and singing and spraying stuff up their noses. It’s gonna be great!!!
FDA is dead to me. Best to do the opposite of what they approve
Caveat Emptor
If you have to be watched for 2 hours after taking it, it shouldn't even have been made available to the public!

If my doctor prescribes it, I’ll tell him, “Up your nose with a rubber hose!”
For those who claim that depression is nothing but a chemical imbalance, this will be a boon. However, the patient will still be depressed - just not showing external signs of it.
Remember...there was a time not long ago that even top doctors at top medical schools thought schizophrenia was the result of bad parenting. Now we know that it's a virus.
Which chemicals? There is no empirical evidence.
Yes. And it wasn’t that long ago that the first woman was allowed to perform surgery at Mass General Hospital. It was on a long weekend in the 50’s when they had an emergency appendectomy and a male surgeon wasn’t available.
What could go wrong?
Its ketamine. My wife is an RN on an infusion floor. This is what the medical community are pushing now. It a temporary high that is being prescribed to junkies. She wants to quit because of the overwhelming downside this soon to be epidemic. Wants no part of it….
I thought that’s what cocaine was ...........
Does it INCREASE the desire to commit suicide like all the other ‘antidepressants’?
