“Father Mann got a call out of the blue. It was Trump. He asked Father Mann why he was decorating the family grave. After he explained his interest, he said the president sounded amazed and told him they would have to get together the next time he was in New York.
Father Mann said he was thrilled to have been called by the president, who he knew to have frequently visited his parents’ gravesite before his election in 2016. Trump speaks fondly of his parents and his older brother, who is interred in the same plot. True to his word, Trump called Father Mann shortly after not being reelected in 2020 and invited him to Trump Tower for a meeting and sit-down.
After that, Trump became close to the elderly retired priest, called him up a lot (priests know how to keep secrets, so he probably trusted that the old priest wouldn't leak), had him stay at his Bedminister estate during his years out of power, as well as blessed Ivana's grave there, which Ivanka sent a note of gratitude for.
After that, he asked the priest to read the blessing, or benediction, at his coming inauguration, which surprised the old priest." ...
We've elected not only a great man as our next president, we have elected a good man -- one who cared deeply about the graves of his parents and family members, one who showed gratitude toward the humble priest who helped him out, and one who conveys such a wonderful choice of associates for us to judge him by -- not about status, but about character.
Values matter. ... But in light of this story, Catholics, and everyone else, can confidently view a presidency ahead from President Trump that is anchored in goodness.

I hope not. We don’t need a president who prays to a dead woman and plays with beads.
Although I appreciate the anecdote about Trump and Father Mann, I find the rest of the article a bit pretentious.
Your comment takes direct aim at the pretension.
Good for Trump. Since denominationalism is anti-christian.
I think Trump was always a religious man, but his brush with death this summer was a spiritual awakening. Many of us, and I’m sure Trump himself, see his escaping almost certain death was an act of Divine Providence. I sense Trump has changed and become more spiritual as a result and now views his presidency as a time for spiritual and patriotic awaking in America. I look forward to this Fourth of July when fireworks will again adorn Mt Rushmore and Trump will again be there.
...Some 50 years ago, real estate developer Fredrick Trump donated the land for the Talmud Torah of the Beach Haven Jewish Center at 723 Ave. Z in Flatbush, NY, as can be seen from a promotional image released by that institution. The center is open and active to this day, offering programs for youth and the elderly, as well as an active synagogue...
...Donald Trump donated in the 1980s, to help build new infrastructure for the Israelis removed from the northern Sinai by the Begin government, which returned the peninsula to Egypt as part of the peace agreement. Then, in 2005, Trump gave again, to help resettle the Jews of Gush Katif in the Gaza Strip, exiled by the Ariel Sharon government...
...Donald Trump’s name even appears on a plaque in Moshav Dekel, in the Eshkol region, where his money went to build greenhouses, homes and roads for the evacuees...

Completely off-topic, I corresponded with E.B. White in the late 70’s. My dad had all of White’s books and I read them with enthusiasm. I wrote to thank him for his essays and was happily surprised when he wrote back. We continued exchanging occasional letters until a year or so before he died. Finding others who know of him beyond his lovely children’s book is a treat.
Yes...? Like I said, he has a religious mindset.
Jesus = 1st Catholic
Pres. Trump’s father and mother were both God-fearing people, Christian in the best way. Regardless of his past wild streaks, DJT turns out a true son of his parents.
That is remarkable!

I went to Salem, MA for Halloween one year. As you may imagine, there were tons of people in consume.
There were also groups people evangelizing. They were all, on the surface, concerned about lost souls and were preaching about God, Jesus, and the Bible. Each group was speaking through a mic hooked up to a speaker.
Group 1 was deeply concerned about the souls being lost to eternal damnation. They were not just talking about sin and judgement, but love. They received a little bit of ridicule, but in general they had a few people’s attention.
Group 2 was more harsh. They said, point blank, y’all are going to hell if you don’t repent. They generally condemned everyone on the street. They pointed out everyone’s failures. This lot got into continuous shouting and yelling matches with many passers-by. Every now and then, they’d offer some advice on the path to salvation, usually with a snide remark or two.
My assessment was the Group 2 people really don’t care about souls. They’re prideful creatures who got it all figured out. They love hearing themselves demonstrate their mastery of God, pointing out how stupid is everyone else, and probably get some sort of a jollies out of condemning people.
So if you see a herd of pigs heading into the Potomac.....
Yes
Don’t be surprised.
We were expecting this.
