“Father Mann got a call out of the blue. It was Trump. He asked Father Mann why he was decorating the family grave. After he explained his interest, he said the president sounded amazed and told him they would have to get together the next time he was in New York.
Father Mann said he was thrilled to have been called by the president, who he knew to have frequently visited his parents’ gravesite before his election in 2016. Trump speaks fondly of his parents and his older brother, who is interred in the same plot. True to his word, Trump called Father Mann shortly after not being reelected in 2020 and invited him to Trump Tower for a meeting and sit-down.
After that, Trump became close to the elderly retired priest, called him up a lot (priests know how to keep secrets, so he probably trusted that the old priest wouldn't leak), had him stay at his Bedminister estate during his years out of power, as well as blessed Ivana's grave there, which Ivanka sent a note of gratitude for.
After that, he asked the priest to read the blessing, or benediction, at his coming inauguration, which surprised the old priest." ...
We've elected not only a great man as our next president, we have elected a good man -- one who cared deeply about the graves of his parents and family members, one who showed gratitude toward the humble priest who helped him out, and one who conveys such a wonderful choice of associates for us to judge him by -- not about status, but about character.
Values matter. ... But in light of this story, Catholics, and everyone else, can confidently view a presidency ahead from President Trump that is anchored in goodness.

I believe that Donald Trump has been pre-destined to lead a spiritual revival in America. This is my prayer for him on a daily basis: that God will give him wisdom, protection and strength in measure equal to his responsibility.
Hopefully not from his abortion loving “Catholic’ wife.
I think the Catholic influence was heightened by this:

“Kellyanne Conway reportedly took Donald Trump to meet Father George Rutler, the Anglican convert priest and pastor of the Church of St. Michael in Mahattan, who blessed the future president just days before his election.”
I attended several Masses held by Fr Rutler when I worked in NYC. He’s no slouch. Very devout. If he blessed Trump - who was an alley cat back in the day - there was likely some conversion along the way.
After the inauguration Trump should have the priest over to the White House to perform an exorcism.
Given the evil people that the previous inhabitant invited in the exorcism will probably take at least a few days.
I also pray for him daily.
A side note: Monica needs a remedial course in English composition.

I guess Melania is RC, so there’s that Catholic connection. I don’t think he has core theological beliefs in his heart, but is respectful of religion broadly. He was raised Presbyterian. Then I guess as an adult he was Episcopal (”J.V. Catholic”, as my friend called himself). He was close with Billy Graham who supposedly influenced him. Ivanka converted to Judaism. He has a religious mindset, but not like Reagan who was anchored in Christianity.
I read somewhere that Trump’s family went to Norman Vincent Peele’s church.
A very good place to learn kindness for all.
Trump was catechized in his youth under a church body with liturgical practices. That may at least give the appearance of Roman Catholic practices, but the breadth and depth of understanding and expression on this side of eternity also gives the appearance of many when there is only One.
Great article, thank you for posting this. I would encourage people to read the entire article at the website and not just the excerpt.
Showalter needs to visit the grave of E.B. White.
Regardless, it would be phenomenal if Christian principles were followed in this administration.
I am, however, praying for the salvation of all involved.
I’m going to agree with you. Every now and again a tag-team of blue-haired lesbians pretending to be an empowered coven “curses” Trump. Good luck with that. So yes, an actual exorcism in Washington DC would be a bad idea.
I mean it Wouldn’t be a bad idea. Sheeesh. Exorcize those fools
DJT should get to know Father Ray Kemp while in DC. He has common sense and is very cerebral. And their personalities might gel well no other DC priest comes to mind.Fr. Kemp is a native in DC and very respected by the older crew. He is very long winded but a character. My father loved when Fr. Ray was saying mass because the guy was very smart and well traveled. I hope Fr. Ray is doing well.
We need a different Pope.
I’m afraid the church has become an entity with more political factions within that ever before. “Liberals” have always been here, but the Pope has brought them out of the closet. The church I attend could be referred to as conservative. I know the priests are troubled with certain things even though they can’t openly say it.
While I lived in DC, the “church” I attended almost seems like a different place. We had a monthly Q and A with the Priests there, kind of a dinner-social thing. One night I asked how could people like Pelosi continue to support pro-abortion measures without anyone saying anything, and I thought the Priest was going to jump across the table at me. He really did not answer either.
I could only imagine how confused some who were new to these churches would feel, or how misguided they would be if they joined now without an understanding of biblical and christian principals.
Fortunately I moved back to Florida that same year.
“Trump was catechized in his youth under a church body with liturgical practices.”
Presbyterian, according to the articles about the Bible his mother gave him. It was for some ceremony in their Presbyterian church.
” there was likely some conversion along the way.”
Many have said that there was a conversion at one of Billy Graham’s last birthday parties.
I suppose that is where “Elements of Style” must be buried....
“I now consider myself to be a non-denominational Christian,” Trump said
