Bob Uecker, the legendary radio voice of the Brewers who had called their games since 1971 and was nicknamed “Mr. Baseball,” died on Thursday, the team announced.

He was 90.

Uecker was beloved for his sense of humor and gained national acclaim for his role as announcer Harry Doyle in the “Major League” movies.

A Milwaukee native, Uecker was an MLB catcher for six seasons, playing his first two years with his hometown Milwaukee Braves and winning a World Series with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1964.

Uecker was enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2003 as the winner of the Ford C. Frick Award, which honors a broadcaster every year.

To live to age 90 in decent health is a life well lived.

"Awww man. Those were great commercials."

Brewers' Uecker wins distinction on 100 worst players list

I love Uecker. Here's one of the worst players of all time who became one of the most famous through his humility and ability to laugh at himself. I still laugh at that image of him being choked by Andre the Giant.

Uecker choked by Andre the Giant

I took a photo years ago with Uecker at a golf tournament and his kindness and love of people was apparent. RIP Mr. Uecker, thanks for the smiles and laughs.

Two of my favorite Uecker quotes:

“I signed with the Milwaukee Braves for three-thousand dollars. That bothered my dad at the time because he didn’t have that kind of dough. But he eventually scraped it up”

On the Tonight Show, Carson asked Bob if he had a room in his house for his baseball awards. Bob replied “Oh sure - and the best part is that you can pick them up at most five and dime stores.”

RIP, Bob.

‘Philadelphia fans are so tough they go to the Airport to boo the landings’

I believe it. Found my free Titan's football ticket plunked me in the middle of visiting Eagles fans. There was fighting throughout the game. Not with Tennessee fans - among themselves!

We’ll miss people like Uecker and the late Harry Carey, baseball announcers with a lot of character. Vin Scully and Jack Buck were great announcers in the own way but Uecker and Carey were interesting people to listen to on-air.
