I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Senate Confirmation Hearing go so badly for the Democrats as it did today. They tried and failed to crush Pete Hegseth, who was supposed to be the easiest to discredit. They should worry about how the rest of these will go, considering how badly they did at the outset.
Kirsten Gillibrand’s screeching left me with a migraine I couldn’t shake. Mazie Hirono made the migraine worse. And, well, someone memed it on X [video at link, all of the harpies shreiking at the same time].
Pete Hegseth’s service in the military more than prepared him to face down a panel of screeching women.
Listening to them go on and on about inclusivity in combat made them look ridiculous and, worse, disconnected from reality. No reasonable person thinks that men and women are equal when it comes to fighting on the front lines of battle. We can pretend we do to fortify our Woketopia, but no reasonable person believes that.

Perhaps this was a particularly weak selection of Senators on this particular committee, and Hegseth just got lucky, but I don’t know. If I were still a Democrat, I might be a little worried that it went this badly and that the Democrats came off once again as too unhinged to lead.
Or maybe I would have YAS QUEEN’d my way through Facebook with my Hillary tribe, manifesting our magical reality distortion trick of lying to ourselves that Democrats like Tammy Duckworth and Tim Kaine got the better of Hegseth. The truth? They were outmatched —not just by him, but by the rest of the Republican Senators who kept pulling out one Deus Ex Machina after another to discredit every accusation that flew out of their mouths.
Was it really the best they could do to try to nail him on drinking and women? It wasn’t exactly a newsflash, considering it’s been sucked in and out of the media churn so often it barely registers, not to mention the surreal aspect of seeing the Left suddenly shocked, shocked that infidelity is going on here.
Maybe Hegseth, like Trump, has been on TV so long that he knows how to play the scene far better than the Democrats, who still don’t really understand how social media works or how and why clips go viral.
It was a cage match to see if the Democrats could break him. He barely flinched. They tried to pin him on assault, it failed. They tried to pin him on being sloppy with finances, it failed. They tried to paint him as an abuser of women, it failed. One by one, they seemed to discredit themselves with their weak questions and their emotional outbursts....SNIP
Hearings are a waste of time. Everyone involved already knows how they are going to vote. Just take the damn vote and move on to real issues
What’s sad is that the Dems don’t realize how foolish they appear and that it is why they lost so badly in the 2024 election. I believe if Trump can effectively follow thru on his platform with the help of Congress the Dem Party may not ever recover in its present extreme left wing state.
All confirmations should be done differently. Basically a candidate should be put forward and a vote should immediately be taken with only submitted name and application being considered. If they candidate has the majority of votes he is immediately approved, if he falls short, the candidate has the option then and only then to go for open hearings to try to sell themselves.
I am guessing 90% of all nominees would be approved without even having to go before a live hearing and wasting everyone’s time.
His tats alone prove his qualifications.
Maybe the rats are afraid of someone who believes in the Constitution and defending the flag so much that he has it permanently placed on his arm.

It will be quiet for a few weeks, then a lot of generals responsible for firing those 8000 service people who refused Covid innoculations ,will be announcing their retirements IMHO.

Oh I have. Democrats are shameless slugs who expose their fecklessness everytime there are republican confirmation hearings. Many times I’ve sat there and listened to them rattle off one lie after another while talking over the republican so that they can’t defend th3mselves. It is their standard operational procedure. They don’t give a rip that everyone in America who watches onows that they are lying through their teeth- they simply have no shame- their father, the father of lies, directs their thoughts and paths
Utterly lacking in integrity. All they need is their master, Shumer, to give them the signal, and they become baying hounds. Character assassination in aid of their ends is routine.
Today, they move on to getting wrecked by the cute blonde chick. It is not going to get better for the Democrats for a while.

The First Mate and I watched the hearing for about an hour. While she is very conservative she does not follow politics closely. But even she occasionally commented on the lying and unfounded accusations being thrown at Pete. She finally asked if Pete could sue for slander. I had to explain to her that Congress had done their CYA a long time ago and now it is law that no congresscritter could be sued for any libel/slander that occurred in Congress or the Senate as long as it was in session.
‘Too bad’ she said.

The biggest casualty yesterday was “anonymous sources”. Democrats oft used tactic of a wrap up smear where they plant smears in the press utterly failed.
Warren and Gillibrand along with the Dem junior varsity hacks doing backup put me in mind of an old Bowie-ism...

It’s interesting the number of people who are making professions of faith as a Christian in support of Hegseth’s profession.
It’s very encouraging and absolutely an answer to prayer, that men and women professing Christian faith are in positions of political power.
Which also explains the left/democrat’s frothing, rabid rage against them.
