Red meat. How much is too much?

Posted on 01/14/2025 5:00:50 AM PST by LouAvul

A chef (Gordon Ramsey?) had a video where he's preparing the perfect hamburger. He made the statement that he only eats red meat twice a week so that he can indulge in ground beef.

What say ye? Red meat is unsafe if eaten more than twice a week? Three times a week?

Enquiring minds want to know what Freepers think.

Bacon & eggs for breakfast, sandwiches with chicken, or ham for lunch and steak or burgers for dinner {the steak or burgers could be deer meat, is that red meat?}.

I don't always eat three meals everyday, but whatever meal I eat, it includes some kind of meat/fish.

If it tastes good, God made it for us to eat and what tastes better than a thick, juicy/rare steak?

Honestly, you can eat nothing but beef, salt, and water and survive just fine. That is called the Lion Diet. There is a somewhat less restrictive version called the Carnivore Diet. Many health issues can be solved by going carnivore for a couple of months.

Once my wife and I eat my way through the 660 lbs of dressed beef for the calf I bought, plus the pork and chicken I get from local farmers, I’ll think about it.

Yeah, add a salad every other day should do it.

If God didn’t want you to eat meat he wouldn’t have made cows out of steak.

How many flowers are too many?

How many beautiful, graceful women gracing a scene are too many?

How many smiles on a happy toddler are too many?

How many soft, gentle breezes on a mild, sunny day are too many?

Beware...My dad lived until he reached 101 years. Then things went bad, health-wise, because we couldn't break him from his lifelong diet of meat and potatoes...served three times a day.

If you want to go by what’s natural, look at what our ancestors ate:
“Early Americans ate tons of mammoth, 13,000-year-old bones from Clovis culture baby reveal”-https://www.livescience.com/archaeology/early-americans-ate-tons-of-mammoth-13-000-year-old-bones-from-clovis-culture-baby-reveal

“Neanderthals diet: 80% meat, 20% vegetables”https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2016/03/160314091128.htm

“Homo sapiens 100,000 years earlier: Ancestors’ diet of game revealed” - New fossil finds from Morocco do more than push back the origins of our species by 100,000 years. They also reveal what was on the menu for our oldest-known Homo sapiens ancestors 300,000 years ago: Plenty of gazelle.

Looks like this chef is on a very unnatural diet.

“…aren’t really good for the gut.“

Processed food, right.
Red meat, wrong.

It’s pretty difficult to find my favorite cuts stocked period, when I do find them at Publix. The going prices are pretty steep, but actually finding the cuts you want is the hard part.

I’m guessing this is because Winn Dixie is ramping down their meat deparment. WD is no longer “The Beef people” their new owners are tied in with Aldi, so they’ve cut way back on meat.

People are living longer than ever, and consuming more red meat than ever. I think the connection is clear.

Seriously though, life is short, enjoy what you like while you can, just onow that you “can” develop cancer eating too much, but heck, one “can” develop cancer avoiding it too. 80 some odd years is plenty- go out with a big juicy steak on the plate in front of you. I know I hope to do so!

Too much red meat? I don’t think that’s really a thing.
