The [Labour] government has announced plans to cap the price of resale tickets in a clamp-down on ticket touts who bulk buy tickets and then resell them for huge profits.
The cap would apply to tickets in the live events industry including sport, music, comedy and theatre.
It was one of the government's election promises, after complaints from fans and concert-goers about the massively inflated cost of some resale tickets.
A public consultation will now be launched to consider the cap and how much it will be - anywhere from the ticket's face value or up to 30% on top of the original price.

Isn’t scalping already illegal there?
I get it. Big scalpers buy up all the tickets before the little scalpers have a chance.
No surprisingly not. The resale market pretty big actually
Back in the late 80’s to mid 2000’s me and my buddy would just park in the lot, drink beer, grill up some tips and wait for the always eventual scalper to walk by.
did this a ton of times.
Still got a pile of stubs to prove it.
Ozzy - 20 bucks
Jethro Tull - 18 bucks
Van Halen - 20 bucks
ZZ Top - 22 bucks
Def Leppard - 20 bucks
etc etc..
Now that a ticket costs hundreds of dollars for mediocre talent i have no idea how it works nowadays..
Now people will routinely pay $1500 to see Taylor Swift, and my daughter said Morgan Wallen tix in NJ were like $1200. Just insane, and sad that young people who work in a McDonalds or whatever can't unwind at a fun concert of their favorite band with a few hours of pay.
P.S. of course we also actually experienced the show, instead of, well, you know...
How was Def Leppard? ‘Hysteria’ was so painstakingly (and expensively) recorded with insane numbers of tracks and overdubs. I always wondered how they pulled off the sound fans expected on stage.
I have a really big stack of stubs.
to be honest with you i was pretty drunk at most of them and don’t remember...lol
My favorite show that blew my mind was Pink Floyd in 86 at Sullivan Stadium in MA. Nothing ever came close to the presentation that they put on...even when they came back a few years later.
Roger Waters tried to replicate it somewhat...that was a good one as well.
BEST tailgate concerts by far was the Jimmy Buffet concerts..
Pink Floyd 1988....sorry.
1994 was when they came back.
Speaking of Sullivan Stadium the WORST show was The Who around 1989 or so.
I had the absolute WORST seat in the entire stadium.
Top top row in the farthest back corner, and it was raining, and i don’t like The Who that much, And the concert went on for hours...
I imagine some poor soul had the same exact seat on the opposite side.
Poor guy..
Coldest i have have been was that same stadium.
Pats game, snowed the night before, beer was freezing faster than i could drink it, sitting on a aluminum bench on the shaded back end-zone, game went into overtime...
i still have nightmares..
When are those Earth, Wind, and Fire tickets coming in?
Considering Ticketmaster is charging $1800 for a FLOOR admission for AC/Dc in Vancouver this year, I really don’t care anymore.
totalitarians gotta RULE!
No one is forcing any one to buy theses tickets.
Want to stop these insane prices.
Boycott a few shows.
Not banned. Regulated...

Sounds like it’s about to be regulated harder.
I think that there’s a bit more going on here.
I think a version of box office fraud in some cases.
But some animals are more equal than others.
Those will likely be protected in any case.
Blatant imposition of commie trash price controls.
If yah want to solve this just forbid any purchases of >6 tickets at a time. This will make bulk buyouts so much a pain in the arse that the scalpers will quit. This sorta worked when other arseoles were buying up the precursors for meth from drug stores. Limit how much anyone can buy and keep an eye on repeaters.
Saw Def Leppard when the average age if the band was 18. That was always mentioned in the radio ad.
