Adam Carolla applied to be a firefighter in Los Angeles and was told to wait seven years because he was White. He got a job picking up garbage at construction sites and seven years later he was told to report for an interview with LAFD. Once in line he turned to a black lady behind him and said it took them 7 years to respond and he asked her when she applied—- she replied, “Wednesday.”

Why are LA taxpayers paying the fire chief more than the president of the United States? And why can’t you get something better than a bull dike for that kind of money?

Well, now you know another one. Twice.

My current job began as an office and has evolved into being a product trainer. College did nothing for me. I’m self trained in my field of expertise and am well recognized in my field.

I’m sort of in between white and blue collar. I drive 40,000 miles a year, sometimes with a commercial trailer with all the silly DOT regulations.

I build most of my own demo’s. On Sunday I’m flying to las Vegas where I’ll spend two days building displays for a trade show which I’ll then be exhibiting at and providing training.

I’s a lot of fun. I’m also starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel toward retiring.

I was a vounteer firefighter for over three years while serving in the Army. I achieved the highest grade at the time of Level II and was a Vehicle Apparaturs Driver Operator, and was licenced by the State of North Carolina.

DEI is about the only way you are going to put people into a job that can’t do it because they cannot wear 60-pounds of turnout gear and SCUBA.

Trump needs to end the Federal Preferences for Gender and Race, now!

Not too strong, not much aptitude, not overly smart and unmotivated equals a great employee.

If they remade the show “Emergency” Gage and DeSoto would be lesbians. Or transgender.

I finished my degree in Molecular Biology at age 19 (Revelle, UCSD). I started my master's program in microbiology at SDSU at age 20 (while concurrently putting in 42 hours per week at Radio Shack). During that year, I took the FCC exams for amateur radio Tech class and 2nd class radiotelephone.

At 20, I took a job at Marine Electric Company. Field Service Engineer. Responsible for all the electronics on 180 tuna boats, 14 base stations and the occasional work boat, Navy sub and large ship. I had to be a member of IBEW Local 569 to do work in the ship yards (NASSCO). It was a nice mix of physical work in the field and bench tech electronics repair. The pay wasn't great. $9.30/hour in 1977. Lots of great "hands on" experience with the full range of marine electronics. It was a bit dangerous. Climbing bilge to crow's nest on the tuna boats, climbing a 40 ft tower on top of a 5 story building, riding a basket to the top of a 150 ft telephone pole to change a cubical quad antenna at the Daley Corporation.

I finally left Marine Electric for Pacific Telephone in 1980. Nice "office jobs" since that time. I'm approaching time to retire now. 40 years of software engineering (and some electrical engineering) has made the college effort worth doing. You don't always land the ideal position early in your work life. You should look for opportunities to interesting new things that improve your income going forward.

The Post Office works the same way. They don’t want ANY responsible, hard working people on staff

I had lots of opportunities to do things that saved a ton of money. Often 2x or more of my annual salary. The effort was rewarded both in promotions and spot monetary awards. I left as a D55 Systems Analyst. The company dangled a position at Bellcore and a master's program to keep me on. I didn't want to move my family to New Jersey. My current employer hand carried an offer to my front door. Easy decision. It has been 33 pretty good years.
