No, Moderate Drinking Won’t Give You Cancer

Surgeon General Vivek Murthy has done more to politicize science and erode trust in public-health leaders than anyone other than Anthony Fauci. Dr. Murthy was at it again on Friday with a headline-grabbing report that recommends alcohol be distributed with cancer warnings.

The report warns that, for some cancers, “evidence shows that this risk may start to increase around one or fewer drinks per day.” Note the operative word, may. The link between heavy drinking and throat and mouth cancer is well-established—but not for moderate consumption.

Two weeks earlier the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine released a congressionally mandated review of the recent evidence on the health effects of moderate drinking, or up to one drink a day for women and two for men. Its more than 200 pages of findings run counter to Dr. Murthy’s 22-page report, though they got scant attention in the press.

The academies found insufficient evidence to support a link between moderate drinking and oral, pharyngeal, esophageal, laryngeal and other cancers. It did find a slightly higher risk of breast cancer with moderate drinking but also a lower risk of death generally and from cardiovascular disease specifically compared with never drinking.

Liberals tend to conflate their personal issues of safety and security for themselves with public policy.

“...“evidence shows that this risk may start to increase around one or fewer drinks per day.”

One or fewer? Zero drinks will do you in too? Just like some earlier douche surgeon general said one puff on a cigarette could do you in. Where do they find these quacks?

If they could promise me immortality, they might have an argument. However, creating policies that allow me to live a few days longer at the expense of the enjoyment, leave me alone.

Red wine. EVOO. Consume a little of each daily for a healthy life.

Factoids.

Endogenous ethanol...the human body itself produces it. Tomatoes and potatoes have nicotine.

What is fewer than one? The answer is zero. Therefore, that statement indicates that the risk increases by not drinking.

Good to read over a Bailey’s and coffee.

Really, I’m taking the day off to shovel the deck and snowplow my two driveways...should have done it yesterday but had to work...

Now for a Tate’s chocolate chip cookie!

My wife has read that nicotine may actually be good for you when NOT taken in by a means of smoking tobacco.

There are those that say it prevents covid-19 infection.

Take this as a grain of salt. Just passing it along what the old lady read/heard.

[[The link between heavy drinking and throat and mouth cancer is well-established]]

The trick is to take a swig of peptol bismol before every swig of alcohol, to coat the mouth and throat and protect agaisnt the harsh alcohol. Olive oil might work too.

Agreed! Too many nancies out there who want everyone eating bugs and vegetables and nothing else. I’m a sugar freak, and decided a long time ago that no, I am not going to stop eating it just to live another year or so in a nursing home after having forgone the pleasures of food through strict diet. Sure, I might feel a bit better without it, but at ehat expense? Eating stuff I don’t like? Avod8ng food I do like? No thanks- I’ll take a slightly less healthy life while enjoying what I like in the process.

They say “oh but you will learn to love eating healthy after awhile” No, no I won’t! Been there done that- getting back to carnivor and sugar and some junk food was a major relief after years of not enjoying my meals of vegetables and no sugar! So, I die 6 months early, or a year or so, and don’t feel as “optimal as I could”- big deal, my psyche is much better for it in the years I do have!

“No, Moderate Drinking Won’t Give You Cancer”

But it may ruin your marriage/life.

Moderate drinking leads to more drinking.

Consuming alcohol is NO GOOD for anyone.

Be honest with yourself. Has drinking ever caused you a problem in your life?

If you said “no”, you are a LIAR!
