It would make sense, for the purpose of the sin controversy, as to why humans might live in a simulation for the time being. It’s kind of like a super AI experiment that stays in a room without affecting the rest of the universe.

No.
But the Why Files are a pleasant way to waste time when you are sick in bed with a cold. Works even better if you have a bit of a fever.

People have always tried to explain in their own terms how creation works. The native Americans tell stories about crows and bears and stuff to explain the sun and moon, etc.
These folks are trying to explain it in the terms they know of (computers).

That other theory of Parallel Universes is easier for me to consider than this, the idea that everything I now experience is an illusion. Something about that sounds like a teaching of Buddha.

Richard Feynman said, “If you think you understand quantum mechanics, then you don’t.”

It would be easier to create an actual universe than a simulation. As you get more realistic the variables and memory required to continue the illusion eventually use more atoms than an actual universe would.

The fact that I can decide whether or not to believe I am in a simulation is proof enough that it is not a simulation. The whole idea is a utilitarian theory which states that life has no intrinsic value. Since we are all simulated, there is no good or evil and if we kill someone it is no big deal because hey they aren’t real they are only simulated. So hey why not just drive your simulated SUV through a simulated crowd of simulated people and it doesn’t matter.

We keep finding reasons to believe that the universe around us is an example of the latest technology we ourselves have come up with. It seems to be the pattern throughout human history.
