I think friendship is like love, there is something that two people find in each other besides agreement on everything.
In love we see people of different religions, different politics, different conspiracy theories, different ideas on raising children, even differences of the Montagues and the Capulets, and accept it, well friendship is like that, two people connect and can argue all those things from the heart and be good friends while doing it, growth can’t happen without it.
Families couldn’t work and endure if sameness was required.
Not when the other side wants you silenced or dead.
No, because political difference are not political differences. They are demands by the other side for you to give up rights, to pay for their crap, and to suffer.
Yes. I have a lot of friends who do not agree with me, but we have other common interests. We simple do not talk about things we disagree about.
I have good friends who are liberals. We are older now so a bit mellow. Also, I don’t allow political talk in my company. I usually don’t see my friends except on wilderness camping trips. We have more important and pressing things to worry about, like getting past the next set of falls, setting up camp, and fixing a decent dinner. As I point out, it’s just us and the wilderness. There’s no politics there.
I haven’t been friends or civil with any of “those people” since Nov. 2016. I’m fine with it. Don’t care if they are or not. I’ve moved on. Clearly, I was on the RIGHT side of history.
It’s not up to us. They have told us that we can’t ever be friends.
For years now I have tried to remember, "Live your life in such a way that you can take as much comfort in the enemies you make as in the friends that surround you." If you have not made enemies, then you stand for nothing.

I can’t because most of the left are parasites who think they are uncapable of making their own way in life. I can’t bear to be around the type of mentality that says I am incompetent of looking after myself.
My dear friend and fellow quilter was a rabid liberal. We understood what topics were open for discussion, and what weren’t. She was a generous and kind person, and died of breast cancer in 2018.
At times, her ahole husband would start with a political dig, and she shut him down immediately.
