A popular California restaurant is closing following a lawsuit centered around its "ladies' night" events.
Lima, a family-run restaurant in Concord, California, is shutting its doors next week after settling a discrimination lawsuit over its ladies' night promotions. The restaurant posted on Facebook earlier this month that it was "unable to fully recover" from the lawsuit and the "compounded" issues it faced regarding increased operation costs.(snip)
Gender-based promotions, such as ladies' nights, have faced legal trouble under the California Civil Rights Act. In 1985, the state's Supreme Court ruled that ladies' day promotions at car washes and elsewhere and ladies' night promotions at restaurants and nightclubs violated the act.(snip)
Lima's ladies' night promotion offered women drinks, including wine, at half price for three hours each week, a deal that had been going on for years.
"It's a frivolous lawsuit that took us down. It's just ambulance-chasing lawyers," John Marquez, Lima's chef and owner, told ABC News.

Good one
This was actually the one I was thinking about

Yes. Ladies’ Day doubleheader was a perennial event at Cleveland Indians stadium. Can’t imagine anyone suing to stop it, but that was then.
Remember when you ran away And I got on my knees And begged you not to leave Because I'd go beserk Well you left me anyhow And then the days got worse and worse And now you see I've gone Completely out of my mind
...not that that’s a bad thing.
They should have countersued for discrimination against Hispanics. Surely there are some statistics available where Hispanic women earn less than Hispanic men.
Not aware of that; from a business point of view, if you draw women into a bar, men will follow. These "events" became popular back in the 60s when "nice" women still hesitated to go to bars, and fewer of them went. When more women started going to bars, there presumably were fewer bar fights and crude language—for the first few weeks.
That would be a good start.
And back then, it was men that paid for all the dates, so the bars really weren’t losing anything by it. And just like you say, it brought in the true paying customers, the men.
This equality crap is destroying the US, as it is ruthlessly pushed into all manner of our lives AKA woke...
California.
It’s time to take on and take out all the WOKE crap from our country. Telling companies they can’t have a ‘ladies night’ is frivolous and stupid.
Yep, all the stupid, time wasting, and anti-business laws like this should be eliminated and those who support them should be shunned...
Grew up going to Tiger/Briggs Stadium (Detroit) - they had many Saturday “Ladies/Retirees/Children under some age” games - 50 cent a ticket. Good deal/times...
