A popular California restaurant is closing following a lawsuit centered around its "ladies' night" events.
Lima, a family-run restaurant in Concord, California, is shutting its doors next week after settling a discrimination lawsuit over its ladies' night promotions. The restaurant posted on Facebook earlier this month that it was "unable to fully recover" from the lawsuit and the "compounded" issues it faced regarding increased operation costs.(snip)
Gender-based promotions, such as ladies' nights, have faced legal trouble under the California Civil Rights Act. In 1985, the state's Supreme Court ruled that ladies' day promotions at car washes and elsewhere and ladies' night promotions at restaurants and nightclubs violated the act.(snip)
Lima's ladies' night promotion offered women drinks, including wine, at half price for three hours each week, a deal that had been going on for years.
"It's a frivolous lawsuit that took us down. It's just ambulance-chasing lawyers," John Marquez, Lima's chef and owner, told ABC News.

The fags were just jealous that females are real women and the perks don’t apply to the sexually mentally ill...men.
Possibly, but it might also have been the nearby county health clinic staff who got tired of treating bar patrons for STDs.
“I’m off the opinion that once a month or so an attorney should be chosen at random and executed by a squad of men using flamethrowers just to set an example for the rest of them.”
Kind of like “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson, with a twist, only for lawyers? Ingenious!
Toss a few judges in the mix just for the hell of it.

They should have had a “Fake Ladies” night.
All would be well in the garden.
Should make sure they release the names of all the people that Sued Them, So that Other People can return the favor
I work as a product trainer for a manufacturer in the retail hardware market.
A lot of hardware stores have ladies nights where they focus on products and knowledge for women trying to improve their homes.
As a trainer I really enjoy these. They are often wildly successful with hundreds of women attending. They come seeking to learn a skill or solve a problem, not to regale me with their supreme knowledge which of course since they’d used my product twice, they know more than me, a qualified multi-decade expert.
Ladies night serves a purpose.
The whole purpose of 'ladies night' is to bring in men. It's a business tactic.
I’ve heard firearms training types have to contend with a similar dynamic as you.
Or maybe a “woman” with a beard and no vagina, who wanted to be treated like a XX?
I had no idea there were any ladies left in California. I thought wymmin had chased them all off.
Remember when people like me told you not to vote for that and you laughed and sneered and gave us the finger and called us racists and voted for it anyway?
Fun times, fun times.....
"Newsom got high, collected another government paycheck and ran to the French Laundry to escape."
The concept is attract a bunch of women to your bar, fill them with cheap drinks and then everyone has fun. Only a homo would have a men’s night at a bar.
Who wants to go to a sausage party? I’d rather have the room full of drunk chicks.
But hey, that’s just me.
[I recall many years ago, some bars had cover charges, which men paid to get in, but women didn’t pay cover charges.]
Okay, WHO is going to do the Seinfeld here.....?
Yes and they can’t have a men’s night because it would attract the gays...
I am saying that law and policies promulgated through emotions often have unintended consequences.
Why not? It's California.
[drunk chicks]
I ran into one at the gas station Friday night. I didn’t realize that she was until about halfway through the conversation.
She had a medical condition so I prayed for her. She gave me a big hug after that. I put her first name in the prayer thread for others to pray for her.
She was nice and at least didn’t appear to have a huge collection of tattoos and piercings (I didn’t see any).
They want to stop all the baby making, knowing that alcohol and food make it more likely to happen.
