Top Trump advisor warns California cities not to block immigration enforcement

California officials, along with dozens of others across the country, received letters this week from Stephen Miller’s nonprofit, America First Legal, warning them of the consequences for interfering with or impeding illegal immigration enforcement.

Miller has been named President-elect Donald Trump’s deputy chief of staff for policy. In a written statement, the nonprofit said it had sent 249 letters to elected officials in states and cities with sanctuary policies.

The officials who received the letters include Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, Los Angeles Police Department Chief Jim McDonnell, San Diego County Supervisor Nora Vargas and California Atty. Gen. Rob Bonta, among others.

The letters, all dated Dec. 23, state that people living in the country illegally are subject to removal and that it is a crime to conceal, harbor or shield them.

California has emerged as a major opponent as Trump vows mass deportations of people here illegally. During the last Trump presidency, numerous cities declared themselves sanctuaries for immigrants. The letters, while not directly connected to the Trump transition team, underscores the coming clash over immigration.

“As Attorney General, on December 4, 2024, you stated that the State of California will not enforce federal immigration laws, encouraging defiance by all California jurisdictions,” the letter to Bonta reads in part. “... This rhetoric illustrates the State’s intent to blatantly violate federal law. Such lawlessness subjects you and your subordinates to significant risk of criminal and civil liability. Accordingly, we are sending this letter to put you on notice of this risk and insist that you comply with our nation’s laws.”

“The fact of the matter is that you and the other officials who support or enforce sanctuary laws, policies, and regulations have a very personal stake in the matter — you each could face criminal prosecution and civil liability for your illegal...”

I am well aware that Trump is not in office and none of his cabinet pickets have been confirmed. And so, to an extent, “nothing is happening” yet. How could it? But after the inauguration, I sure hope to see a lot of fast action. We’ve been getting talked to death for months now.

1. Declaration of national emergency.

2. Activate U.S. military and seize the border with orders to eliminate with extreme prejudice any attempts to illegally enter the U.S.

3. Suspend habeas corpus. This takes the US civilian judicial system out of the equation. Thereafter it is all UCMJ.

4. Activate Bradley Fighting Vehicles into every major city to quell rioting or protests.

5. Impose a national curfew.

6. Suspension of satellite telecommunication links except for military and governmental users.

7. Suspension of all entitlement programs based on debit/credit card and electronic cash disbursements.

Severe penalties are indicated for interfering with the deportation of criminals who are in the US illegally.

I hope Trump and/or his advisors remember the ruling that Texas couldn’t complete the border wall because “Immigration is a federal issue, NOT a state issue”. I hope they take this ruling and beat these leftists over the head with it.

“California has emerged as a major opponent as Trump vows mass deportations of people here illegally.”

We’ll see. As the mayor of Denver can tell you, talk is cheap and he got his words stuffed down his throat long before Trump even takes office. If criminal deportations are seen to be happening and flushing out vermin across the country, these tough guys will promptly STFU. Even here in CA, elections can feature a faint pulse of common sense, as the mayor of Oakland and former District Attorneys of San Francisco, Alameda, and Los Angeles counties can attest.

I think they’re gonna test these warnings by the incoming administration. I think someone’s gonna wind up wearing orange.

I think that there is a very interesting 2nd Amendment case working its way through the courts that has great precedent and negative consequences for California and sanctuary cities.

“.....“A State cannot invalidate federal law to itself,” 8th Circuit Chief Judge Steven Colloton wrote in the ruling....

The Missouri law forbade police from enforcing federal gun laws that don't have an equivalent state law. Law enforcement agencies with officers who knowingly enforced federal gun laws without equivalent state laws faced a fine of $50,000 per violating officer......”

You dare to post this her? Of all the forums in the world. You should read the front page.

” Free Republic advocates a return to constitutionally limited government, reserving all government powers not expressly delegated by the constitution to the United States to the States respectively, or the people, emphasizing sovereign state governments, local government, self-government and self-rule, while restricting government powers to only those enumerated in the constitution and maximizing individual rights and liberty as originally envisioned and established by our Founding Fathers and secured and defended by the blood of patriots and statesmen for over two hundred years.”

America-hating, illegal alien lover, aren’t you? Just aren’t you? Every step and remedy enumerated in my comment is entirely legal in a cassus belli. We have been invaded and attacked for years upon years because of treasonous weak people like you. With no pushback. Lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way.

Upholding our Constitution is treasonous and weak, eh? There’s a huge difference between enforcing the law and imposing a military junta. We don’t need a military dictatorship to enforce the law. You should be ashamed of yourself.
