Whether you're an occasional home cook or devote your waking hours to making gastronomic creations, you will likely agree that aluminum foil (aka tin foil) is one of the most versatile products in the kitchen. Whether you use it to line sheet trays, cover roasting meats, or shape it into a pouch to cook or reheat leftover foods in the oven, aluminum foil can do so many things.
While the thin metal is used by 319 million Americans each year (according to one 2020 study), have you ever wondered why one side is shiny while the other is dull? Recently, a video went viral on social media claiming that the side you use should depend on how and what you will use the foil for. But is there any truth to that? Is the dull side intended for certain uses, and the shiny intended for others? To settle the confusion, we consulted some experts about the "right way" to use aluminum foil.
The short answer is no. Since the matte and gloss are a result of the foil's contact with the roller, Tiro asserts that there is no difference in the material make-up of both sides of the foil. Whether the foil is regular or heavy duty, you can choose your preferred side to line or cover your food, as neither side will impact your food upon contact.....
While conventional aluminum foil doesn't require using a specific side for cooking, an exception applies to non-stick aluminum foil. Tiro explains that regular foil isn't inherently non-stick, but many companies produce a non-stick aluminum foil containing an FDA-approved coating on the dull side, That means foods should be placed on that side to get the benefits on the non-stick coating, ensuring easier, cleaner removal of cooked food.

Thank goodness tinsel is good on both sides.
First they say ‘no’ and then they say ‘yes, definitely’, it’s an enigma, inside of an enigma, wrapped in a enigma.
I notice we get sent to MSN quite a bit recently. I click right back out.
My mother used to wrap my canned soda in it when I was blueberry raking as a kid. She said it would keep soda cold in the paper bag with my sandwich 🤣🤣🤣
If one side was more obviously reflective and the other not, the answer would be obvious. The reflection differential between the two sides, is incremental, but not non assistant.
You guys are all screwed up about Tinfoil Hats. They are not for reflecting, they are antennas for receiving signals.
“I notice we get sent to MSN quite a bit recently. I click right back out.”
SAME HERE! I am personally tired of the fraudulent and deceptive bait and switch with the sources. It claims “Allrecipies” and then sends us to MSN. This should be taboo. It is misrepresentation and dishonest. There are several who pull this scam. If the source is MSN then list the source as MSN not allrecipies.
Put the REAL source and stop the bait and switch deception with sources. If it is on MSN follow it to the original source at allrecipies and link that source and stop making us go through MSN as a middleman.
.
Far more important, aluminum foil is .001” thick. Emergency shims can be very accurately stacked.
“Yes.
Copper gives you protection against electromagnetic fields that is second to none.
It is also anti-bacterial so if they try to get you with their brain germs you are ready.
It does not protect against mind worms though.
There is no protection against that.”
OK that explains it . . .
Man, I never did even think of that.
Oh, what am I gonna do now...
And remember the shiny side on the outside for a better antenna reception.
Yes, finally!
I am so tired from those sleepless nights worrying
about that.
Oh, sure. Let’s say you were the government agency in charge of the mind control rays. Wouldn’t this be exactly the sort of story you’d publish if, in fact, it DID matter? You can’t fool me.
Very cool. Bamboo is amazing, and you use what is in your environment!
Reynolds to the rescue! Now I am hungry, too!
