The U.N. Agency UNRWA, has been planning all year for winter in Gaza, but the aid it was able to get into the territory is “not even close to being enough for people,” said Louise Wateridge, an agency spokeswoman.
UNRWA distributed 6,000 tents over the past four weeks in northern Gaza but was unable to get them to other parts of the Strip, including areas where there has been fighting. About 22,000 tents have been stuck in Jordan and 600,000 blankets and 33 truckloads of mattresses have been sitting in Egypt since the summer because the agency doesn’t have Israeli approval or a safe route to bring them into Gaza and because it had to prioritize desperately needed food aid, Wateridge said.
Winter is hitting the Gaza Strip and many of the nearly 2 million Palestinians displaced by the devastating 14-month war with Israel are struggling to protect themselves from the wind, cold and rain.
There is a shortage of blankets and warm clothing, little wood for fires, and the tents and patched-together tarps families are living in have grown increasingly threadbare after months of heavy use, according to aid workers and residents.
Shadia Aiyada, who was displaced from the southern city of Rafah to the coastal area of Muwasi, has only one blanket and a hot water bottle to keep her eight children from shivering inside their fragile tent.
“We get scared every time we learn from the weather forecast that rainy and windy days are coming up because our tents are lifted with the wind. We fear that strong windy weather would knock out our tents one day while we’re inside,” she said.
With nighttime temperatures that can drop into the 40s (the mid-to-high single digits Celsius), Aiyada fears that her kids will get sick without warm clothing.

“Why aren’t these poor Arabs already safe and warm in Cairo? They could have walked there by now.”
They could have been and could be allowed to walk to the West Bank by Israel.
According to Islam, it is Allah’s will or it wouldn’t happen, they should submit to the suffering.
Right now... It’s 64 degrees... It’s called ‘winter’, but a decent sweater or light winter coat should do the trick. Freezing rarely occurs in Gaza.
Yeah, winter is so unexpected in that part of the world. They could not have seen this coming.
You shouldn’t have flown over the fence and murdered 1200 Jews! They are blaming the wrong people
Why would the Israelis reject tents and blankets? Egypt shares a border with Gaza but doesn’t want to use the Rafah crossing - they have been delivering aid into Israel for transport to Gaza via Israeli crossing points. Something else is causing the hiccup. Maybe Israel did stall or reject but there must be a reason. Israel has been delivering 1000s of trucks of aid and have allowed Egyptian and Jordanian air drops. It’s reported that there are something in the range of 850 or so trailer loads of aid sitting there that the Gazans and the NGOs have been unable to pick up and distribute.
Maybe they shouldn’t have started a war.

UNRWA is helping Hamas.
People of Gaza needs to unconditionally surrender. And the war will end.
The UN should resolve that Iran has to provide 2 blankets and some wool socks with every missile they deliver.
Winter is here and many people in NC are still in need of shelter.
Charity begins at home.
If Gazans need help what remains of hamas can choke up all the humanitarian aid that it stole from them.
Make Hamas release the hostages. That might be worth a half cup of give a chit.
File this under “FAFO.”
Should the Gazan Arabs, 98% of whom support Hamas and the complete destruction of Jews and Israel, have any empathy or sympathy for their plight?
Send them to the original two-state solution country of 1921 now known as Jordan. Why? Because 80% of the Palies have family there!
sad. tiny violin plays somewhere in the distant background. trees weep.
Nothing says failure more than UNRWA.
Cold hearts, from the river to the sea.
Mankind began in that region. How can they be so far behind?
Gaza is experiencing lows in the mid-40s, and I would presume, dry weather. Lots of Americans facing worse conditions.
Hamas followers are not Sunnis and WILL cause problems any where but Iran, full of Shiites
