Japan's Space One suffers second Kairos rocket failure

Dec. 18 (UPI) -- The Japanese company Space One failed for a second time Wednesday to launch its Kairos rocket when it went out of control about two minutes into the flight.

The rocket's first-stage nozzle malfunctioned about 80 seconds into the flight at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday local time from Space Port Kii in Kushimoto, Wakayama Prefecture, and automatically self-destructed during the launch that had already been postponed twice by weather conditions.

Space One is attempting to be the first private company in Japan to put satellites into orbit and the company's president, Masakzu Toyoda, made a press conference apology to the company's clients for "being unable to" reach that goal.

"We apologize to our customers and those involved in the launch for the failure to achieve the mission to the end, and we are very sorry that we did not meet the expectations of everyone who supported us," Space One said in a statement.

The rocket's payload was five satellites owned by the Taiwan Space Agency and two Japanese companies -- Space Cubics LLC and Terra Space Inc.

The first failed attempt happened in March.

That rocket exploded just after launch due to an incorrect calculation of rocket propulsion,

Space One, created in 2018 by Canon Electronics, IHI Aerospace and others, operates Space Port Kii.

The company aims to lower commercial space delivery costs by providing regular rocket launches and achieving the quickest lead times in the world.

Space is HARD!

I wonder how many untold $ billions Japan would pay for SpaceX’s rocket designs? The man holds the keys to space dominance.

failed for a second time Wednesday to launch its Kairos rocket...

Not only do they have a problem with time, they may want to rethink their brazen dismissal of those who have their backs.

You just know that the Chi-Comms, Russia, European
governments and space agencies, Japan and just about
every other wanna-be space company are trying to
penetrate Space-X and steal their designs.

I hope Elon Musk has the most strict security procedures
and the most alert, toughest security forces on Earth to defend
his company"s secrets.

Article:

“quickest lead times in the world”

Mission accomplished—they delivered the payload quickly. It just arrived in many pieces.

Lol.

Launch failures are commonplace with space newbies. They’ll probably be just fine, and more launch capability worldwide is better than less.

Back in the 1980's I worked with a guy who hired on with NEC (Nippon Electric Company), to be a switchman troubleshooting their long distance telephone switches.   They flew him to Japan for their training school on the NEC Switch.   He told us later that the Japanese, because of the need to always save face, would troubleshoot bugs in a totally opposite way from us.

We first looked for the simplest mistake or fail point and worked up toward the most unlikely cause.   The Japanese were compelled to first look for the most unlikely cause because the simplest problem like checking to see if the power was on or off would be an insult to the person who had been responsible for turning on the power.

Apparently they are unfamiliar with Occam's razor.
