“If you take diphenhydramine, also known as Benadryl or Elavil, or any sort of antihistamine medication or anticholinergic for a long period of time, it has been linked to dementia,” Hasan said.
Benadryl is an over-the-counter antihistamine used to relieve symptoms of hay fever, allergies and the common cold.
Research has shown a link between an increased risk of dementia and long-term use of Benadryl and other anticholinergic drugs that block acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter crucial for muscle contractions and important brain functions like learning and memory.

My guess is that someone’s notes went from “diphenhydramine, found in Benadryl, and Elavil” to “diphenhydramine, found in Benadryl and Elavil.”
This is fairly legit... not JUST the doctor covered, but the entire medical community is putting out the word on this.
Not so sure about that! I have a 98 year old friend who is completely with it mentally. Physically, not so much.
Ping
In a follow up study to be conducted and released in 2025 will find Benadryl and Elavil reduces the odds of dementia.
Medical science has lost most of its credibility as it should.
Hopefully it returns to facts but it has a long way to go
I had a grandmother who made it to 96 and she still had her wits... By the time she turned 99 she was without them. My own mother lived until cancer took her at 88... And she was spot on, but my father started showing signs of dementia at 86, and thankfully died at 87 before he had completely lost his mind.
It’s hard on the family, but I’m pretty sure that those suffering from dementia are oblivious when it fully sets in. For those who suffer from dementia at an early age, it must be complete devastation... Many of them will live for decades and more and their families will feel the full brunt of it. The hope for a cure gives people hope, but it’s fact of nature that the older we get the more susceptible we become and there isn’t a whole lot you can do about that.

Just to prove the point about these ‘medical studies’; a very long time back, pepper was condemned by these same sorts of ‘scientists’ because it will accumulate in your kidneys and you will die.
Friday night pizza isn’t going to stop, and it’s totally worth, what you were talking about. What were you talking about again?
“What were you talking about again?”
What’s out there in the RFK world regarding health. If he gets confirmed, you’ll hear about it. If not, ping me and I’ll link you to some videos. They pretty much have the (biological) mechanisms figured out now.
Dittos.
A potential association between COVID-19 vaccination and development of Alzheimer’s disease
Won’t be able to hear about it over the sound of chewing my Friday night pizza.
Elavil is an old standby, but my MD said to limit it severely.
Sometimes, dementia is just brain atrophy. People living alone and living solitary lives tend to get it.
So you could really sneeze your brains out!...................
“Won’t be able to hear about it over the sound of chewing my Friday night pizza.”
That depends how far RFK is able to go. The problem isn’t carbs per se, as people ate carbs for thousands of years without the very recent horrible effects we see in any great numbers (obesity, diabetes, then dementia).
The problem is what has happened to carbs in the past 50 years or so, particularly wheat. Today’s wheat is NOTHING AT ALL like the wheat your grandmother ate, not even close, and human bodies simply never had time to adapt to it. So, if RFK goes there (which is much of the reason why the food industry is scared Shiiteless of him), then maybe you can eat your Friday Night Pizza without fear, and I’ll join you.
Thx, mewz .... nothing to see, here, right?
“I have allergies so been taking Benadryl for 40+ years. No signs of dementia. Just normal short term memory loss at age 84.
I stopped taking Claritin last fall after I turned 86. I had taken it for 2+ decades.
My wife needs to start as her nose now runs all day in the day.
“If people want to get dementia, just keep carb-loading.
Worked that way for me.
About 8-10 years ago, I got off the high carb diet and went to the Med Diet.
I have typical 86 old short term memory issues.
Yep, the med diet was a mistake, since it is still high-carb.
