Trump Calls for Immediate Ceasefire in Ukraine and Says a US Withdrawal From NATO Is Possible

WASHINGTON (AP) — Donald Trump on Sunday pushed Russian leader Vladimir Putin to act to reach an immediate ceasefire with Ukraine, describing it as part of his active efforts as president-elect to end the war despite being weeks from taking office.

“Zelenskyy and Ukraine would like to make a deal and stop the madness," Trump wrote on social media, referring to Ukraine's president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

In a television interview that aired Sunday, Trump also said he would be open to reducing military aid to Ukraine and pulling the United States out of NATO. Those are two threats that have alarmed Ukraine, NATO allies and many in the U.S. national security community.

Asked on NBC's “Meet the Press” if he were actively working to end the nearly 3-year-old Ukraine war, Trump said, “I am.”

Kyiv would like to close a deal, Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social. “There should be an immediate ceasefire and negotiations should begin.”

“I know Vladimir well. This is his time to act. China can help. The World is waiting!” Trump added. He was referring to mediation efforts by China that many in the West have seen as favoring Russia.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov responded to Trump's post by repeating Moscow’s long-standing message that it is open to talks with Ukraine. Peskov referenced a decree by Zelenskyy from October 2022 that declared the prospect of any talks “impossible” as long as Putin was Russia's leader.

DNC/Biden/SomeRepubs have been puppets - they have been captured by foreign enemies and do as they're told. The intention was to use Hillary, but when she lost the task fell to Biden, to commit the United States nuclear arsenal and/or advanced weapons to overthrow Russia. Note Zelensky's decree in 2022 that peace was not possible as long as Putin ruled Russia. The Deep State wanted to torment Russia into replacing Putin. That decree is still in place.

Had NATO (i.e., Biden dollars and weapons) won its PROXY war against Russia, the Deep State would gain control of the nuclear arsenals of both Russia and America and thus the Deep State would rule the world.

But the Pentagon stood back from committing America's blood and treasure from direct war with Russia and only old weapons were given to the Ukraine. These much-talked-about HIMARS recently fired into Russia are, like everything we give the Ukraine, decades old versions, according to the stenciled information on the remains of the missiles.

NATO/BIDEN lost the proxy war with Russia - Ukrainian citizens caught in the crossfire are still paying the price. Putin remains President of Russia- it's highly unlikely that Zelensky will continue to be the little-big-man in the crime hub known as Ukraine.

Both NATO and the UN need to be tossed into the dustbin of history. They are more of a problem than a solution to anything.

a US Withdrawal From NATO Is Possible

It should be more than possible - NATO was formed to defend Western Europe from the Soviet Union, a nation that no longer exists. And Western Europe is busy devouring itself with unchecked Muslim immigration - why are we trying to protect nations like Germany, France and Spain when they won't defend themselves?

Trump isn’t going to help Zelinski... he might help Ukraine, but Zelinski and his Biden supporting team are going to pushed out. March elections in Ukraine will not help rid the nation of Azov in the political leadership. Trump should repay Joe Biden and his ilk for both impeachments in which Zelinski and his crew assisted. The only reason the Ukraine war cheerleaders in Washington accuse Trump of being a stooge of Putin is that they are all compromised globalists and corrupt.

Interesting option to consider:

US pulls out of NATO.

Creates a new group - ATO - Arctic Treaty Organization, composed of nations that have borders touching the Arctic Circle: Russia, USA, Canada, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland

“NATO” has become quite complex. There is a thing called the “parliamentary assembly” which has representatives from legislatures including 12 Members of the US House of Representatives.

This supposedly military alliance can, in effect, have a foreign policy independent of national governments and could, through its actions, bind member states to war superseding the authority of the national governments involved.

It has become a transnational government.

We need to get out of NATO as soon as possible.

The problem is not Ukraine. Russia has refused to agree to a cease fire. It always amazes me that the onus is always placed on Ukraine and not on Russia, the ones who started the war.

Fake news: Trump has only talked about leaving NATO if the Europeans don't pony up their fair share.

BTW, that might mean bilateral arrangements with European countries that do, for example, Poland.

Trump ties his personal prestige to perceptions of American power. He isn't going to roll-over for Putin and he might very well disappoint the 5-year olds on FR stomping their feet and holding their breath for the US to withdraw from the world.

I've been saying it since the end of the Cold War.
NATO should have ended when the Warsaw Pact ended.

A good follow up would be getting out of the UN.

Withdrawing from NATO would be every bit as much of a positive development as ending our involvement and funding of the war in Ukraine.

Peskov referenced a decree by Zelenskyy from October 2022 that declared the prospect of any talks “impossible” as long as Putin was Russia's leader.

How about a 90 day cease fire with a requirement that The Ukraine holds elections in 60 days. Let's see what Ukrainians want out of this with a legitimately chosen government.

The Russians are in the driver’s seat, but the cost per kilometer is about 2,000 dead Russians.

At this point, the Russians will not agree to a ceasefire.

They are not going to stand still while Hegseth greatly increases US military production and Ukraine trains its 18 to 25-year-old males.

Ukraine can ask for terms, and Russia will provide them.

If the terms are agreed to by Ukraine and countries holding Russian assets, the war will be over.
