Family of nine-year-old girl born without her left arm are told new prosthetic 'not medically necessary'

The family of a nine-year-old girl who was born without her left arm has been told a new prosthetic is 'not medically necessary' by their insurance company.

Remy Bateman, from Utah, has lived her whole life with the use of just one arm 'due to an amniotic band in the womb' caused her to lose the limb at birth, according to her mother Jami Batemen.

The school girl has always relied on prosthetics, but after recently outgrowing them, her family set their sights on upgrading her to a robotic arm.

They traveled to Colorado where Remy got to test out the Hero Arm, quickly feeling a sense of joy because of how functional it made her.

But her happiness was torn away when Select Health sent a denial letter to her mother, stating the new prosthetic is 'not medically necessary.'

Jami immediately appealed the company's decision as she was left confused why they refused to cover the costs.

'They’ve approved three prosthetics before in her lifetime, so I can’t figure out why they refuse to deny this one,' Jami told KUTV.

Despite sending an appeal letter back to Select Health, Jami said she yet again received a letter denying coverage for Remy's new arm, which costs $24,000 without insurance.

During their time in Colorado, Jami said her daughter was visibly thriving wearing the robotic arm.

'This is 100 percent needed,' her mother said, adding that they saw with their own eyes what their daughter is capable of with the advanced prosthetic.

'We have seen what she can do being over in Colorado for three days.

People are upset that any one could see how someone would be upset with insurance companies enough to commit such horrible act.

Yes it was horrible and in no way justified BUT we can also see how this is becoming an issue for so many.

As I said before we are seeing a French Revolution level of disconnect between the elites running these corporations and the common person.

We can entertain both ideas, the murder was wrong and the insurance companies are wrong at the same time.

This is fake news.

Fake news might be factual in some respects, but it is reported so as to fool the sheeple and lead them into believing what the liberals wants them to believe.

And you fell for it.

Actually, it’s not medically necessary. However, there are insurance companies that would cover it. But, they won’t be the cheap ones.

Don’t complain that your health insurance is too expensive when insurance companies are supposed to pay for every conceivable treatment, no matter how expensive it is. That’s why premiums are so high. OTOH the CEO doesn’t need to make 10 million.

Unless the parents can pay for it then they should stick to normal prosthetics until the girl is fully grown. Having to constantly replace a robotic one to keep up with growth would get mighty expensive. Thereby affecting insurance costs or coverage for everyone else.

Well.....

This past year I had one employee with cervical cancer and another that had to have a liver transplant.

The insurer was United Healthcare and they basically paid for everything.

Wait. She has been approved for prosthetic arm. She has not been approved for a robotics arm.

Makes sense.

It took me less than two minutes to figure out it’s fake. This story smelled false from the very beginning and as a thinking person, I went to see how and why it didn’t add up.

The report goes on to say that the mother claims they had given the child previous prosthetics and she wondered why they are denying this one now. She is twisting the truth. The average prosthetic cost around $5000. I can understand the family wanting a $24,000 prosthetic, and I can also understand why the insurance company won’t approve a highly technical upgrade like this.

If someone steals you are $5000 car, do you expect the insurance company to reimburse you with a $24,000 car?

There are other obvious signs within this article that just screams fake news. But like most liberal news sources, they have an agenda to jump on the bandwagon to increase levels of hatred and stupidity. In this case they’re trying to fan the flames of how violence against the CEO was justified.

OK. The anti-insurance company activist should break the left arm of the individual who made the final denial of coverage, so he/she has to live with what the kid is living with. That is, of course, if you support the shooting of the CEO.

This is not an opportune time for insurance companies to be effing around with denials.

They are denying her an advanced robotic prosthetic arm; I’m sure she could get a simple prosthetic arm. Cost is probably several million dollars. This is why insurance is so high. I think there should be three classes of insurance. (i) Actual insurance: You pay for everything EXCEPT unforseen extraordinary medical expenses related to a short term emergency event (car accident, incident of cancer, aneurysm, stroke, heart attack, broken leg). Inexpensive and affordable. (ii) Health Services: Basically what we have now, something that helps pay nearly all medical bills,, but with caps. Moderately expensive. (iii) Gold Plated Comprehensive coverage: Covers rare and exotic treatments, and everything else. Like robotics prosthetic devices, like life time care for someone born with severe disabilities, like terminal care for someone with dementia... this would be super expensive, but you could live knowing that if you were on these situations you are covered.
