Despite Microsoft's push to get customers onto Windows 11, growth in the market share of the software giant's latest operating system has stalled, while Windows 10 has made modest gains, according to fresh figures from Statcounter.
This is not the news Microsoft wanted to hear. After half a year of growth, the line for Windows 11 global desktop market share has taken a slight downturn, according to the website usage monitor, going from 35.6 percent in October to 34.9 percent in November. Windows 10, on the other hand, managed to grow its share of that market by just under a percentage point to 61.8 percent.
The drop was more pronounced in Microsoft's home market of the United States. Americans are now less than keen on the IT titan's flagship operating system, at least if you judge by the figures, resulting in a fall in the US of more than 3 percent in market share, while Windows 10 grew by a similar amount.

How many are still running Win 7?
I'm sure that would have an effect on sales....
A few percent overall. That translates to at least a few millions of computers. Win7 remains the most loved version of Windows ever.
Can someone tell my why I have to SEARCH for the Control Panel and why it isn't listed with the other apps and features?
W 3.1 never surrender!
I know the article talks about percent of computers, but the reality is that many people don’t even own a desktop or a laptop. They do all of their computer work from a smart phone.
Me for one. All of my critical stuff is on 7. I have a couple of Win 10 computers where I need to have it. None are upgradable to 11.
Is that correct?
Hate to see it go.
I have used Windows 10 for almost five years.
Not one software issue in five years.
It is the best OS I have ever used.
My nephew just switched a buddy of mine over to Linux. His computer was completely bogged down. On Linux it’s lightning fast again. At least for everyday usage.
I think I’ll go that way too. I hate 11.
I concur! Yes it ends on Oct 2025.
I’m still on 8.1, just sayin
Microsoft puts out trash every other iteration. The alternate year OSes are more stable, but alas, they are still microsoft, so even though they are relatively stable, they’re still bloated and invasive.
Windows 3.1 (or workgroups) - OK
Wndows95 - junk
Windows98 - moderately stable (but NT was way better, so thus win2000 okay)
Windows ME - The second worst OS ever
Windows XP - Quite stable unless you were a complete noob
Windows Vista - THE worst OS ever
Windows 7 - Propably the apex of stability for Microsoft in the retail market
Windows 8 - Thirds worst OS ever
Windows 10 - Not as good as 7, but fairly stable. Requires a fair amount of user intervention to get just right.
Windows 11 - This is basically just Windows10, but more invasive of your privacy
Windows 11 is a privacy nightmare.
This video was uploaded by the You Tuber Britec09.
Lots of videos on You Tube on how to do Windows 11 when Microsoft supposedly wasn't "supporting" it.
I'm thinking about doing a dual boot Linux, if I don't like the option of running Windows 10 after October of 2025.
They deserve it, they’ve been creating basically spyware to sweep all your data, touting it as a great feature and totally safe because you can opt out, then quietly making it an essential service that cannot be opted out from. If I had a business I’d be looking for other options immediately.
“that worthless search box”
It IS worthless. Typical Windows... take something that was intuitive and add 5 extra clicks to the process.
What is worse is the default setting to search the internet from the box. So as you type “Contr..” it begins showing you web results for “contraception” instead of Control Panel.
I learned this the hard way when using my work computer. Started typing in “down...” to find the downloads folder (you know, the one that used to be right there) and I hit Enter before typing the full word.
What did Bill think I needed to see? Web search results for “downblouse,” which it then immediately opened in the equally worthless lEdge browser.
I am
Win 11 is so much slower than Win 7, despite running on a new machine with way more RAM, and a much faster CPU.
