Cannabis Use Linked to Epigenetic Changes, Study Finds
Science Alert ^ | Rebecca Dyer

Posted on 12/12/2024 4:58:54 AM PST by yldstrk

Using cannabis may cause changes in the human body's epigenome, a study of over 1,000 adults suggests. The epigenome functions like a set of switches, activating or deactivating genes to change how our bodies function.

"We observed associations between cumulative marijuana use and multiple epigenetic markers across time," explained epidemiologist Lifang Hou from Northwestern University when the research was published in 2023.

Heavy pot smokers end up with big, floppy man-boobs. It feminizes you. Wait till that info gets passed around to the kids.

I know people who have been smoking the evil weed for 50 years or more. I also knew people who were alcoholics. The alcoholics didn’t make 50 years, they’re all dead. In spite of all of the “reefer madness” articles pot is nowhere near as harmful as booze. Not to say you should be a pothead, but enough of the hysteria.

Holy crap update. A study from 2021. Read it to learn why Deep State loves legal weed, especially the high potency stuff, especially for minors...

New York Potency Tax - What You Need to Know

NYS, CT, and IL are the only three states, so far, with potency taxes.

Deep State knows exactly what it is doing.

Are these the same epidemiologists that told us about lockdowns, masking & vax mandates? Why don’t we just ask 100 former Intel experts for their take as well!

It is looking at genetic changes over 5 + years so you are not going to see anything particularly dramatic. (It suggests that it will negatively affect your long term health and possibly that of your children.)

snip.... "They looked at the epigenetic changes, specifically DNA methylation levels, of people who had used cannabis recently or for a long time.

The addition or removal of methyl groups from DNA is one of the most studied epigenetic modifications. Without changing the genomic sequence, it changes the activity of genes, because it's harder for cells to read the genome instruction manual with these molecular changes in their way." snip....

"It's important to note that this study doesn't prove that cannabis directly causes these changes or causes health problems.

"This research has provided novel insights into the association between marijuana use and epigenetic factors," said epidemiologist Drew Nannini from Northwestern University.

"Additional studies are needed to determine whether these associations are consistently observed in different populations. Moreover, studies examining the effect of marijuana on age-related health outcomes may provide further insight into the long-term effect of marijuana on health."

The study never "proves" anthing because the last paragraph is a hook to get additional research grants for the next study and employment for more scientists...

More dramatic! Here is what you want, marijuana use increases the risk of mental illness.

cannabis-use-increases-risk-of-psychosis "New research from King's College London and South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust has shown that genetic load for schizophrenia and frequent use of cannabis have independent links to the likelihood of developing clinical psychosis. The results provide insight into possible future ways to identify those at higher risk of psychosis and help inform preventative strategies.

There is a well-established association between cannabis and psychosis but the underlying role of genetics in this relationship remains unclear. Polygenic risk scores (PRSs) summarize the estimated small effects of many common genetic variants on the risk of developing a disease or disorder. Recent advances in the collection and analysis of genetic data have enabled PRSs to be calculated for a range of disorders."

I know, people can cite high functioning friends who smoke and do not seem to be damaged. Still, consider the costs and damage caused by more low energy dependent self induced schizophrenics and psychotic ass-holes. If one side is recruiting for unhinged Antifa and BLM activists sounds like a good recruiting method. (Cf. the origin of the term "assassin". How would this work in a modern American context? Which side would use this for recruiting and motivation?)

Have discussed this genetic research several times on FR to the howls of indignation from readers who clearly were at some time or still are Pot smokers (chronic use— and some since their before and early 20s. The schizophrenia link and also to lung cancer is well established by reaearch in The Lancet done in the UK. Developing young brains still growing into mid 20’s age showed drops of 20 points in IQ and in gene research the alteration of specific gene sites on DNA/RNA— those identified with documented schizophreniia were altered, and these populations developed the syndrome.
Schizophrenia in later life which is permanent. NOT a benign agent and never was- and it is a gateway agent.

The quote in this article that refers to this research:

“Multiple epigenetic changes associated with cannabis use had previously been linked to things like cellular proliferation, hormone signaling, infections, neurological disorders like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, and substance use disorders”

The hoax of “medical marijuana” is that there is extensive research and patents done with pure Cannabidiol (CBD) which is used in seizure control. NOT one with the psychotropic element stoners seek, the TetraHydroCannabinol (THC). Plant genetics creating hemp plants which produce NO (zero) THC, was pioneered by Israeli clinical scientists who hold patents on these genetic manipulated hemp plants. A modern marvel alternative to addicting opioids in pain management.

No it’s not. I know someone who used to smoke about a half dozen joints a day. Now he does one or maybe two on a bad day. He has Crohn’s disease. Seems to help him quite a bit.

Sure- alcohol destroys the liver and immune system. The point about this methylation of genes in individuals is the very specific confirmed causality of frank, permanent schizophrenia in genetically identified populations. This is not hysteria- it is real science. And not the fakir Fauci kind of science.

Should add that pot and lung cancer links are definite. Having nothing against oral ingestion of THC in people whose brains are fully developed (over 30 years old), it’s clear the lungs are affected by vegetable smoke in chronic use- that alone along with the genetic damage to lung cells. Smoking (tobacco and other vegetable matter) of pot generates 100s of to date not fully identified carcinogens in that smoke. In total not a benign drug (THC/cannabis) and neither obviously is booze.

Not preaching here- this is clinical differential diagnosis. It is very upsetting to livelong chronic users who have definite addictions they deny. All here are familiar with the lingo.
