Vladimir Putin has been dealt a significant geopolitical blow with the downfall of Bashar al-Assad, whose regime in Syria the Russian president had committed considerable funding and military resources to propping up.
Assad fled Syria and has claimed political asylum in Russia, Kremlin-backed media reported, his now exiled status depriving Moscow of a key regional ally.
Russia's military assets in Syria are now under threat, such as its naval base in the port city of Tartus, which gave the Kremlin a presence near NATO's southern flank in the Mediterranean Sea.

Pro-Moscow military bloggers have expressed concern over the future of the Khmeimim Air Base near the city of Latakia, that was host to Russian aircraft whose bombardment of Aleppo in 2016 was key to Assad retaining power.
Without access to an air force base and a port that were linchpins for Moscow in the region, Murrett said: "Russia will not be in nearly as strong a position."
Also at risk are tactical outposts like Qamishli Airport in the northeast, while reports of thousands of stranded Russian personnel in Syria and equipment left abandoned point to the military cost for Putin. Russian troops have requested Ankara's help for for their safe exit, according to CNN Turk.

Best observation on this Syria mess.

I don’t know...I don’t think we know what “is” “is” yet.
Christians in Aleppo and Sahnaya are celebrating Assad’s fall.
Over half a million Syrians have been killed under Assad since 2011. I’d guess Christians have been well represented.
Remember too that Putin and Assad’s Hezbollah minions have been terrorizing Lebanese Christians for years.
Unlike Russian’s presence in Syria, we never had a strategic interest in Afghanistan. Our long intervention should never have taken place.
For Russia, Syria has been the lynchpin to assert its influence in the region. Without it they might as well be Costa Rica.
The rumor is that a number of Russian troops got left behind during the Bug-Out.
“Putin has Assad as a roommate now”
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Actually it’s yet another room-mate for Putin!
Lets not forget that pro russian past-president Viktor Yanukovich fled to Russia too... after he had abused Ukraine’s people beyond damage. That guy demanded Russian troops to invade his own Ukrainian country!! Evidently, he is wanted for HIGH TREASON in Ukraine. But Putin protects him in Moscow.
Yanukovich and Assad... they are exactly the same, and they end the same way...
In the end it will be Israel who will be the biggest loser here as Syria falls apart into ISIS 2.0
Thanks to the proxy war we started and done everything we could to keep going, Russian will end up in possession of 30% of Ukraine, at least, the most lucrative part of what was Ukraine.
I'm sure they can find another base somewhere to ship whatever they want to Africa.
You mean spending billions in recent years to build churches for Christians?
Or banning the LGBT agenda within Russia? Banning gay marriage? Banning sex changes period, including on children?
Anyone that thinks Russia has lost 600,000 troops in Ukraine is ignorant.
The BBC and Mediazona, a pro-Ukraine source, estimate the causalities at 120,000.
And, the vast majority of those causalities in the first year and half were Chechen Muslims, inmates fighting for the Wagner group and militias from the LPR and DPR, who were fighting for their freedom.
So, spin, spin, spin anyway you like, but Russia has won the war in Ukraine and will reap the benefits. The benefit bing possessing the most lucrative, resource rich part of what was Ukraine.
Ukraine will be lucky to exist after the war is over. And, the rump state that will exist will be one of the poorest nations in Europe.
While the grifter, Zelensky will be living the life of luxury elsewhere, thanks to Biden and US taxpayers.
In the end it will be Israel who will be the biggest loser here as Syria falls apart into ISIS 2.0.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
ISIS 1.0 is still present all over the middle east though, but it’s very disorganized.
Let’s hope that the Syrian rebels will not let ISIS join them.
One thing is certain: The Rebels are Sunni Muslims.
Iran/Hezbollah and Hamas are Shia Muslims.
If they are fighting against each other it’s actually a good thing for Israel.
Let’s remember that many Sunni nations have signed peace agreements with Israel. The Shias have not.
Thus, good news for Israel that the Syrian rebels are NOT Shias.
When Obama was President, Syrian Christians seeking asylum in the US were almost always turned down (only 0.5% of those given asylum were Christians). Muslims had a better chance.
