[Verse 1: Marilyn Maxwell & Dean Martin] I really can't stay (But, baby, it's cold outside) I've got to go away (But, baby, it's cold outside) This evening has been (Been hoping that you'd drop in) So very nice (I'll hold your hands, they're just like ice) My mother will start to worry (Beautiful, what's your hurry?) My father will be pacing the floor (Listen to the fireplace roar) So, really, I'd better scurry (Beautiful, please don't hurry) But maybe just a half a drink more (Put some records on while I

That is indeed awesome.
I like Dean Martin singing anyything, so this is my favorite version.
But here one that should satisfy the woke, unless they get that it is lampooning them

A little role reversal.
For some odd reason, at my late age, other men’s wives have been finding me attractive. I know this because whenever I try to talk up a pretty woman, the first thing she tells me is her husband’s first name.
Glad you said that. It’s actually a really creepy song. Hate giving leftists ammunition for canceling songs, but that one is super super creepy and date rapey. Like seriously, the song ends with suggestions she’ll get pneumonia and die if she doesn’t stay and engage in poor life choices with him. What guy says things like that?
Agreed. I hate the song, no matter who sings it, and “cringy” is I think a great word to describe its lyrics.
Repeatedly?
Rape is when you are forced to do something against your will.
What this song is talking about is seduction.
Only liberals and imbeciles, but I repeat myself, think that they are the same thing.
She is free at any time to walk out the door and chooses not to do so.
So what is your problem with a women making a choice?
Get a dictionary.
Quit being a butt hurt little bitch.
The song sucks, the lyrics suck, and the the whole song revolves around a women trying to leave and some scummy dude trying every trick in the book to keep her there for what sounds like something she’ll regret

This woman agrees.
I just cannot believe that so many parents fail to see what they are doing to their own children, simply because they believe the "experts".
The songwriter wrote this one for he and his wife to sing together for their house guests at holiday parties - if the lyrics sound somewhat scandalous, it's because the song was intended for a group of adults who understood the lyrics to be exaggerated and a bit risque. I'm not sure how it went "public", but it's certainly not the only song that was intended for limited playing to go mainstream.
Here's a comedian's take on the controversy. Profanity was dubbed out.
The comedian is hilarious, and yes, I agree that stuff now adays makes this song look like singing ring around the rosie.
I just don’t like the song, and with the lyrics by themselves, the guy just comes off as a desperate creep trying to get a piece of ass.
And the women is trying to politely extract herself because, the impact of staying could have negative repercussions on her life, and the guy just doesn’t seem to care.
I guess what it comes down to is, I put myself in that position as a man. And if I had a lady over, and we had an awesome night, but she is from a traditional family, and is concerned if she stays longer, it would have negative impacts on her, I would absolutely be respectful of that. I would ensure she gets home safe. I would then tell her how much I look forward to seeing her again.
What I WOULD NOT do, is try to get her to drink more, and then tell her she’ll gent pneumonia and die if she leaves.
Thats just desperate and sad on the dudes part if you ask me.
I'm a big fan of paying attention to the author's original intent and can totally accept that's what the author intended. OTOH, imagine your daughter being in this situation with a creepy scumbag who won't take no for an answer or be concerned at all about her interests. I can only suspect that if this song was written today that it would end with roofies in her drink.
Your vision of “seduction” is pretty creepy.
