It's that time of year where we gather with Loved ones and "not so loved" ones.
This will be an ongoing thread through the holidays where we can vent about those who we would rather not be around but are required to do so.
Feel free to vent here about that special someone who manages to ruin your holidays, inlaws you abhor having over for dinner, and even that boss or co-worker who destroys the Xmas spirit.
Crazy. We didn’t pull the tantrum card in 2020. I like to believe we’re reasonable folks.....
It’s very difficult to do something like that with family.
But I agree that there is no need for them to stay in the house; there are all sorts of excuses why you might have to ask someone to come for dinner, but make arrangements at a nearby hotel.
Those cookies are so delicious.
She is in the leftist cult unfortunately for you.
I don’t think most of them are capable of being deprogrammed.
My wife is too sweet...she is still going to their place, across the country, to help with childcare while my sister does some deadline work.
They pay for the flights but then the brother in-law then trea5s her like a servant
...last time he even planned to be gone and have my wife take my sister to a doc appt to remove some “concerning” skin from her head/scalp.
“It’s very difficult to do something like that with family.”
Life is difficult.
You just do it.
Once you go alpha you never go back—and you walk with your head high.
I had an aunt who was such a narcissist that when we visited her house, we watched what she wanted because it was her house and her TV, and when she came over we watched what she wanted because she was company.
She died years ago a lonely, bitter old woman with nobody who mourned her passing. Except maybe her daughters but I even wonder about them.
You’re more generous than I.
Nobody rearranges ANYTHING in my house.
I already told the wife, and will tell my sister after she gets back home all the crap he pulled (I didn’t me turn he kept changing the thermostat without asking ir even saying he was too cold or too hot)
He will never come here again. I think his plan all along was to make me explode so he could say he wouldn’t ever come back.
Any future invites will only involve ny sister and the nephew (who is a such a good kid)
Ugh
I had dinner with my wife and daughter #1 and her kids. My son in law is deployed. My other daughter and her husband were in Richmond and could not make it up to MA this year.
My grandkids are the best thing that ever happened to us.
The only complaint was that my granddaughter only wanted to eat eggs and pie.
Very quiet. Very nice.
Hahaha
There’s a reason it’s called, “grace under pressure.” I applaud yours. I try to teach my kids that the most important time for good manners is when someone is being rude. Kindness is a reward in itself.
Thank you!🙂
Do you think that might cause problems for her and the boy? The BIL doesn’t sound like the type to just say, ‘OK, I’ll stay home and you two can go’, without throwing it up to them in some way...
Sounds like a plan—stick to it.
If sis objects ask her to meet in a neutral place to discuss it.
Then lay down the law.
“You are welcome at my home but I am done with him.”
I do not know your sister so it is hard to tell what is going on here.
The guy has an absolute right to be a jerk—just not at your house.
:-)
I figure out where something works and it goes there and I leave it. The next time it moves will be when we are moving out. My dear husband LIKES rearranging things. Leaving it in the same place for more then six months gives him hives. So we have worked out a compromise. He can rearrange to his heart's content as long as he leaves my kitchen be. He can even move the book shelves as long as he puts the books back exactly how they were on there in the first place.
And we lived happily ever after. :)
At one point I had to kick one of my wife’s sisters out of our house immediately after dinner (she had no husband).
She was being rude and I had enough.
She has not been back since—she thinks I am rude.
I can be very rude when I want to be—but it is not the rudeness of uncontrolled anger—it is the rudeness of calculation that I will not tolerate rudeness in others at my home.
He might end up with a fork through his hand with my excuse of sorry, I automatically grabbed for a teaspoon. The following morning when he’s wanting his breakfast plate under his nose would be sorry, your wifey will be making it special just for you. No, he eats what he requested or eat what everyone else is having and says thank you to the host. If he wants a short order kitchen then Denny’s is right down the road. Who takes over your tv??? Yeah, it’d be a hotel for him for now on or set him up with extension cords in the cold garage.
I thought this was a conservative board. Conservatives don’t need grief counselors.

He is happy as long as he gets his way..... the two of them being gone means he has no responsibility for anything.
It will work out fine
Venting is universal...
But feel free to attempt to troll me.
After dealing with my brother inlaw and working the Aeattlw riots 2015-2022, you have no chance at getting goat.
