Israel poised to approve ceasefire with Hezbollah: official

Israel looks set to approve a US plan for a ceasefire with the Iran-backed Hezbollah on Tuesday, a senior Israeli official said, clearing the way for an end to the war which has killed thousands of people since it was ignited by the Gaza conflict 14 months ago.

Israel’s security cabinet is expected to convene later on Tuesday to discuss and likely approve the text at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the official said.

This would pave the way for a ceasefire declaration by US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron, four senior Lebanese sources told Reuters on Monday.

In Washington, White House national security spokesperson John Kirby said on Monday, “We’re close” but “nothing is done until everything is done.”

The French presidency said discussions on a ceasefire had made significant progress.

The agreement has already won approval in Beirut, where Lebanon’s deputy parliament speaker official told Reuters on Monday there were no serious obstacles left to start implementing it – unless Netanyahu changed his mind.

Netanyahu’s office declined on Monday to comment on reports that Israel and Lebanon had agreed to the text of a deal.

Hezbollah, seen as a terrorist group by Washington, has endorsed its ally Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri to negotiate.

Israel may cease fire, but Hamas will keep throwing rocks.

“...What will the DNC’S Hamas wing do now?”

I guess that all depends on what they plan to do with all the paid rent-a-mobs that have been “occupying” roads, bridges and campuses on behalf of Hamas and Hezbollah. They probably need them to fill the upcoming, never-ending AntiFA and BLM riots that are probably going to flare up once again, once the weather warms up a bit after January 20th.

“Free Palestine” is SO 2023, after all. With Orange Man Bad back in the Whitehouse, they’ll have far bigger fish to fry.

/wish it WAS sarc.

Israel may cease fire, but Hamas will keep throwing rocks.

I remember a news report years ago when Israel controlled Gaza. Anytime IDF troops would enter an unfriendly neighborhood, the alleys along the street they were on would turn into throwing stone factories, with every daughter, mother and grandmother turning big rocks into small rocks to resupply the sons, fathers and grandfathers throwing rocks at the IDF.

This only means that the IDF has achieved all of their original military goals in the north.

Continued military action will have diminishing results not worth the effort. And these troops badly need a break.

Why is everyone talking about Hamas in Gaza on this thread when the story concerns Hezbollah in Lebanon?
