Tesla Has Highest Rate of Deadly Accidents Among Car Brands, Study Finds

Despite the company's claim that its vehicles are "engineered to be the safest in the world," the Model S and Model Y rank among the most dangerous automobiles

By Miles Klee, 21 November, 2024

“Teslas are the safest cars on the road, but most people don’t know that,” Tesla CEO Elon Musk wrote on X (formerly Twitter) last year. The superlative is typical of the billionaire, and the automaker itself, which boasts that its vehicles “are engineered to be the safest in the world.”

But while Tesla’s cars routinely receive top safety ratings, including from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, accident statistics show that the brand has the highest rate of accidents in which at least one car occupant is killed, according to a new report from the auto research firm iSeeCars.

Analyzing fatal collisions from 2017 to 2022 involving 2018-2022 car models, the group identified the Tesla Model S and Tesla Model Y as two of the most dangerous cars on the road by occupant fatality rate. Though models from Hyundai, Chevrolet, Mitsubishi, Porsche, and Honda occupied the top five spots on the list, the Tesla Model S, a mid-size SUV, came in sixth, with a fatal accident rate 3.7 times higher than the average car, and 4.8 times higher than the average SUV. The Model S rate is double that of the average car.

Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the report....

It’s because Tesla drivers have to drive at high speed to make up for all that time sitting plugged in.

Why do we acknowledge Rolling Stone and NY Slimes as legitimate news sources here?

Not trying to be a dick. Honest question. What does a conservative news aggregator with commentary capabilities look like during a 2nd Trump Administration?

I say that because we are embarking on the opening move in the first real fight against the Marxists. Everything else prior to this were “shaping operations.”

Wouldn’t it serve the country better to only post legitimate news sources? Look what the LA Times did by firing their entire editorial board. I’d be more open to cite their sources, than anything NYT, Rolling Stone, of Wapo has to say.

In the end, the next battlefield is against the MSM. It has to be won in order to break the mass psychosis in the US.

Sudden deceleration of a 3,000 pound battery will impress the underwriters guzinta calculators. That's one of the most dangerous things in general aviation. The batteries are in the back of the plane. You have an impact and the batteries fly thru the cabin like square cannon balls. They will rip your head clean off or snap your torso like a twig.

Physics is an unyielding reality that challenges the best of engineers. My daughter had a 60MPH sudden impact into a stationary force. The front axles, wheels, engine, folded up and above the drivers compartment. The trunk was behind her head, despite it was a four door car. The passenger seats were well, without shape or observable inventory. The engineers deserved a medal for energy disposal in a collision. The driver's compartment was perfectly in tact. All she had was airbag burns and a few broken ribs and shoulder bruising from the seat belt inertia system.
