In a perfect world where I have endless time and energy, I get home every day and whip myself up a delicious 5-star dinner. In another perfect world where I have won the lottery, I pay a chef to do it for me...
BUT I DON'T live in a perfect world, and neither, I'm guessing, do most of you. And since we're all just normal folks trying to do our best when we're tired and hungry, we mustn't overlook the convenience of the humble frozen dinner. You probably shouldn't survive on TV dinners alone, but boy do they come in clutch on a tough day.

Of course it is not steak.

I rarely make lasagna because it’s such a chore (including I will only use homemade sauce,) plus you can’t make a small amount and I’ll pig out on it. Stouffers is a perfectly acceptable substitute if I get the itch from time to time
Marie Callender pot pies are good, but they could use more chicken. Aldi’s Breaker pot pies are comparable.
The problem with homemade tv dinners is that they don’t keep well, not being full of preservatives like most of the commercial ones.
Hungry Man fried chicken dinners are good, as long as you don’t get stuck with a thigh, but not slimy, imho.
I like stauffers vegetable lasagna, but Wal-Mart brand is better and cheaper.
XD XD XD. But it said it was steak! And Salisbury sounds like a high class place in England!
There should be more Marie Callender’s on this.
However, I’d add Stouffer’s Alfredo (chicken & broccoli, particular). I love it. My hubby also likes their lasagna - but still not as good as his.
Amazing, Amy’s cheese enchiladaz is one of the only frozen foods I buy along with Amy’s burritos. (Amy’s been making her portions smaller even though the nutritional info remains the same.)
As kids we used to eat the original Swanson turkey dinners. They came with mashed potatoes and peas, plus stuffing, gravy, and dark and white turkey slices. I used to throw the dark meat away. Still don't eat it.
I never buy frozen dinners of any kind, but just recently, I was looking for something I could make quickly at home as my son was in the hospital, and I had limited time at home to take my meds and eat. Conagra makes Hungry-Man dinners. I bought two Hungry-Man Roasted White Meat Turkey Dinner. They were selling two for $6. I didn't want anything that big, but the store had no smaller offering in that brand. Swanson used to sell an entree-type product with just white meat on top of the stuffing with gravy, and mashed potatoes in a two-part aluminum container.
Conagra produces the Hungry-Man products. The food was horrible, very bland with no flavor whatsoever, despite putting salt and pepper on it. It was nothing like what I remember Swanson's dinners tasting like. I had to take all the corn out of the carrots and corn, because I can't eat corn due to diverticulitis. And I've never eaten any of the desserts they ever offered when they expanded the packaging. It was so disgusting that I threw the second package out in the garbage the next day.
My wife is currently hooked on Stouffer’s Cheddar Potato Bake frozen meals, eats one or two nearly every day. She also likes the Chicken Fettucine Alfredo and the Classic Meatloaf. I’m not that fond of most frozen foods, but they are easy when neither of us feels like cooking.
When I was a kid, TV dinners were something of a treat because we didn’t get them often.
Yes, Stouffer’s lasagna is pretty good, and they don’t seem to’ve changed the recipe in decades — a good thing. I tried the “meat lover’s” variety, however, and it tasted very sweet. Their mac-n-cheese is a guilty pleasure too.
It was created by a Dr. Salisbury who was an early version of Dr. Atkins. Also a Doctor during the Civil War.
Salisbury Steak is pretty good when home made. Like almost everything, the frozen variety is a bit inferior.
We eat amy at least once a week we add fresh green onions on top maybe do up some rice
IKR love them its the best F it meal
Read the list backwards if you are a man. And delete anything from Amy’s. Replace with Nighthawk Cheese or Beef Enchiladas.
Salisbury Steak is outstanding. It’s American!
We try to remember to date them and I do note that the flavor is not as good after 6 months or so. But, for the most part, I feel healthier putting together a mix of vegetables and meat with NO preservatives. If they’re lost, so be it. There’s always another pot of SOMETHING to work with.
I do the same thing with Chinese takeout. I keep a shelf of additional ingredients and massively modify 2 orders of a dish by recooking it. Then freeze them in serving sizes. For tofu with black bean sauce, I add masses of whole fermented black beans, bok choy, and lots of additional black bean sauce. For vegetable mu shi, I add dried tree ear fungus, wood ear mushrooms and tiger lily buds. And lots more hoisin sauce. I always get extra pancakes, separate them first, then stack and freeze them in bunches of 5. They separate frozen, and unfreeze with the mu shi perfectly.
