Maybe I'm slow, but I just realized why Gaetz goes to Justice Dept.

I would have said, "I get it; Gaetz will be appointed by recess appointment, but won't his appointment still have a pointless political cost?" I mean, he's innocent until proven guilty, but hardly exonerated, and it's all still kind of a yucky situation for an Attorney General to have been in.

Then I realized: the way to get rid of him is to appoint the next guy he picks. You want to get rid of Gaetz? Then you have to vote for (say for humorous example) Mark Levin as your next Attorney General.

BRILLIANT!

That will work. Perhaps even Ted Cruz is ready for a lifetime appointment himself.

AG appointment is not permanent, thank goodness. Perhaps you didn’t really mean to use the word permanent?

Mark levin trashed Trump. Rush did not like Trump. Had to stop listening to both

Levin came around but he really went out of his way to trash Trump

Not as many people did that as one may think

Michael Savage was in Trump’s corner from the beginning.

2. This means that if anyone is going to fill one of these cabinet positions through a recess appointment, it must happen AFTER January 20th.

If the 'appointees' are in Congress and resign now then the 90-day election process for a replacement can begin right away, thus having that Congressperson in place on January 20 with no damage to a narrow House majority.

Yes, you did. APPOINTMENTS is in quotations, not clownish. I take back my apology.

Go back and read what you typed.

Correct. The allegations against Gaetz came from a Republican tax collector in central Florida who was nailed for corruption. In the hope of a better deal from the feds, the attorney for the tax collector started leaking claims that Gaetz was involved in wild sexual antics that amounted to trafficking and sex with one or more underaged teens.

After much delay, the FBI found nothing to it, but Gaetz's enemies in the Kevin McCarthy camp recycled the claims into lurid news stories and a House ethics complaint that remained pending in order to provide a continuing basis to smear Gaetz. By resigning, Gaetz deprives the House Ethics committee of jurisdiction and ends the case so that the files can be released and his name cleared in the Senate confirmation process.

With that in mind, the Gaetz nomination also makes sense as a way to definitively and publicly refute the contention that the Department of Justice and the FBI can or should be politically independent. When publicly exposed, Gaetz's experience will show that both agencies are accustomed to abusing their power for nefarious political purposes and need accountability. As Attorney-General, Gaetz will be that accountability.

I’m sorry but this absolutely stupid reasoning. Why would he get rid of Matt Gaetz as a congressman. You’re making stuff up that doesnt exist. Ridiculous.

My thoughts on this are Gaetz resigned his seat effective immediately BECAUSE Trump wants him in the Senate in Rubio’s seat!! AG will be either Matt Wittaker OR Mike Davis, I am betting on Mike Davis because he and Grassly are very close, Mike worked under Grassly for quite some time!! Gaetz in the senate will be far better than Rubio to gum things up there!!

I see Gaetz as a sacrificial lamb. Others have said DeSantis can appoint him for Rubio's seat

There's rumors that Desantis is going to put his AG Ashley Moody in Rubio's seat.

Thune publicly said he will allow recess appointments. He could be lying, but he did so publicly.

Mainly that Gaetz has had Trumps back through his first term, the last 4 years and now. And he is a fighter.
