Two helmet-wearing goons shot a cellphone store worker multiple times and took his $22,000 Rolex during a stickup in Queens, cops said Saturday.
The robbers got tangled in a physical altercation with the victim just before 7 p.m. Friday at the Top in Town Wireless store on 32-78 Steinway St. in Astoria, according to the NYPD.
During the fight, one of the thieves fired multiple rounds at the victim, cops

They’ll probably get $700 to $1,000 for it ....
It is foreign to most of us that a cell phone store worker might be wearing a real Rolex. But, that is NYC for you. Most workers are really owners or sons of owners and New Yorkers know their Rolexes. A 18 year old might be wearing a fake, but it doesn’t surprise me a bit that the cell phone store person had a real one.
If you are wearing a $22,000 Rolex you should also be wearing a $500 Glock.
“The sad part. If you can’t wear them out, where do you wear them?”
Family functions like Thanksgiving Family Dinner.
Exactly. I wear my Rolex or my Omega any dang time or place I want to. I also always wear a concealed Glock 33.
Never walk in fear. Take our country back.
“””That’s what jumped out at me too.””
I think it did everyone....How about probably “ripped it off” someone else too?
Yeah prolly a quartz action Rolex
London is also a dangerous place to wear a real Rolex. If you’re out at dinner a waiter might spot it on you and alert thieves waiting for you outside. Best to wear some cheap watch instead but yeah the point of a Rolex is to mostly flaunt it so that works against you. You don’t have as much fun with it if it just sits in your watch box at home.
Rolex did make quartz watches once. Just look up Rolex day date oyster quartz say on ebay and you’ll see a bunch well north of 22K. Not all but some for sure.
If you can afford a Rolex
you can afford to be late
lol....that’s a good line
Correct...it IS a problem. But the thief is not thinking that one can walk around all year in Seoul or Tokyo without getting mugged. The thief wants to fence the watch to get enough money to pay for a shipment of meth or fentanyl.
Sadly the problem doesn’t disappear in New York, just because it’s safer somewhere else.
Smart people don’t show their valuables in public in New York or any other dump.
I have never understood why anyone, even someone who can afford it, would want a $22k watch. And a cell phone company employee probably can’t afford it. A knock-off, maybe?
I have my dad’s Rolex. It was made in 1969. He bought it used in 1983. I only wear it in the month of December and only at the house. He loved the Christmas season and it is a way to honor his memory. On a regular day, I have a pocket watch that ran me $100.
And here I thought that NYC has some of the toughest gun control laws in the land.......it just proves criminals don’t obey laws. The only thing criminals really fear is a police office with a firearm (or a vigilante with a firearm).
Who goes to work at a store in multi thousand dollar jewelry?
I was taking a guy up to his judgement deptor exam at the Ohio Asst AG’s Office and on the elevator I noticed his Rolex President. I told him to put it in his pocket. He said: “do you think they’d try to take it?” I told him” “you betcha.” When they asked him about personal property he was sweating. When they asked him about Jewelry I thought he was going to faint. But he said, “yea I got a watch and a neck chain.” The AG lawyer just checked a box on his paperwork and never asked him where it was.
