Lara Trump Touts big Changes to Election Process After Inauguration

While the details of this potential change to the U.S. electoral process are thin, the suggestion of the RNC co-chair seems to confirm many experts' fears that Donald Trump's return to the White House might significantly transform American democracy.

A "blanket federal election process" is likely referring to a desire to standardize procedures at the national level instead of letting every state choose its own process; this might include the homogenization of the deadlines for mail-in ballots, absentee ballots, and when votes are counted across the country.

Talking to Fox News host Sean Hannity on Wednesday after her father-in-law's historic victory about how to make the election process more secure and transparent, Lara Trump said that with Donald Trump in office, a GOP majority in the Senate and potentially in the House as well, the Republican Party finally has a chance to address the issues "99 percent plus of Americans agree on." These include, according to Lara Trump and Hannity, proof of citizenship and voter IDs.

"We don't have a perfect system right now," she told Hannity. "We have to get through this system, we have to play the hand that we were dealt. You have election season now instead of election day, and a lot of nuance around the country that makes it very confusing and really concerning for a lot of people."

Very impressed by Lara Trump and what she accomplished in this election. I may have to take back some of the horrible things I’ve said about the RNC.

Only citizens can vote; how does the proposed system check this?

Removing someone who is deceased from the rolls.

MANDATORY, with jail time for not doing it.

Bad idea as not everyone has a smart phone.

Presidential elections are handled in a different section/amendment.

It sounds too much like China’s social credit score stuff where everything is in your phone and you have to comply or no food or medical care for you.

All vote counting locations will have their plumbing inspected and repaired prior to the election, and a plumber will be on call for emergency repairs.

As I said, I understand the reluctance to put MORE power into the hands of the Federal government.

I fully get that.

But this is an outlier, IMO.

Our SOS (a legal immigrant himself) is trying to get the Federal government’s help with vetting tens of thousands of registered voters who have no DL or SS numbers listed. They’re really uninterested in assisting with that so why would I trust them with any other part of the process? The federal government doesn’t really do anything well and this would be no different and would get even more of their corrupt fingers in the pie.

As said above, start making fraud a much more serious offense than it currently is.

ABSOLUTELY. We need federal standards due to a hard-left state (think California) being able to turn into a Fascist entity, can GREATLY affect the country. Think trucking, ports, and many, many, other things. At a minimum, the people there should at least have a chance to fairly vote on what government they get, just like the rest of the country (hopefully).

I read your post to mean you were against national standards for voting in national elections. Did I understand you wrong?

I understand that. Perhaps we should speak of it as “the voting process”.

Not over until the electors have voted and election is certified.

We can’t have States with nonsense like RCV and writing laws specifically written to allow cheating and fraud with no way to audit and no accountability.

After all, in a presidential election we all have to live with the consequences. States writing laws to make fraud acceptable hurts everyone in the whole country.

3. Only legal residents to the USA will be included in the census.

Although this is entirely reasonable, just, and sensible, it may be unconstitutional. I suspect the Constitution specifies that the census counts "persons," thus including (at the time) women and those not of voting age for example. Illegals qualify as "persons." So the key to solving that is to deport or naturalize them pursuant to individual qualifications. It's a huge job.

Easy global travel did not exist in 1787. At the time, if you were here, you were likely to stay. That's why there is no distinction for travelers, as those numbers were so low as to be insignificant. IOW, the Constitution needs an amendment here that should also clarify the disqualification of anchor babies.

Just tie a national standard to receiving Federal funds.
The feds do that with instituting educational reforms on states all the time.

We now cast our votes on a paper ballot. We carry the paper ballot to a doublesided scanner where it is scanned and tabulated. The actual ballot is dumped by the scanner into a secure bin. There is now double balloting along with instant vote count.

That must be the way voting is accomplished every where.

Mail in or off site voting must be stopped except in extreme instances. The fact one is unable to vote makes them ineligible to vote. If the are too ignorant to comply with the voting method then they are ineligible to vote. If they fear presenting a valid government ID then they are ineligible to vote,

The right to vote is secondary to the necessity to be capable of voting

Not if you had a constitutional amendment that said:
Same-day voting only.
Absentee ballots only.
Paper ballots.
Hand counts with lots of witnesses.
Chain of custody ensured with lots of witnesses.

Actually, I don’t understand why the Civil Right voting act doesn’t apply to election fraud. Diluting or replacing my vote via fraud is effectively the same as denying my vote due to my race\religion. Why hasn’t that legal argument been tried?

I think I know!
