Donald Trump's McDonald's Shift Went Down Best With Gen Z
Newsweek ^ | 10/24/24 | Jordan King

Posted on 10/25/2024 6:16:24 AM PDT by Libloather

Donald Trump's shift at a Pennsylvania McDonald's was most popular with Gen Z, a new poll shows.

The former President, known for his love of fast food, made headlines when he learned how to make fries at a branch in Feasterville-Trevose in Bucks County last weekend.

The apprentice worker held an impromptu news conference via the drive-thru window, and used the opportunity to repeat his claims that Kamala Harris has been lying about working for the fast-food chain in her college years.

Harris has referenced her McDonald's stint multiple times. In an August 31 post on X, formerly Twitter, she referred to herself as "a daughter of Oakland, California, who was raised by a working mother and had a summer job at McDonald's."

A total of 39 percent of Gen Z (people born between 1997 and 2012) said Trump's stunt made them like him somewhat or much more.

This is significantly more than the 23 percent of Gen Z who said the shift made them like Trump less, while 38 percent said it did not impact how much they like Trump.

The 39 percent who said they liked the 78-year-old Republican presidential candidate more after his stint comprises 21 percent who said they liked him much more and 18 percent who said they liked him somewhat more.

Still think the McDonald's visit has 'story of the year' potential. Working two stations perfectly - on the first day? C'mon, man.

Trump’s McDonald’s shifts were PERFECT. Nobody has ever done that as well as Trump. That, This Guy can tell you.

Politicians during election campaigns do all sorts of stunts. Thety wear hard hats, eat foods they dislike, go to church services, visit food pantries etc. etc. There is one old practice that you will never see Kamala Harris do. She will never hold or kiss a live baby.

Gen Z, for all their faults, do seem to be able to pick up on people acting in an inauthentic way and those who are deemed “try-hards” — trying to be something greater than they are.

Trump is believable as someone who enjoys working for McDonald’s because there’s a track record of him actually liking to eat at McDonald’s, even doing commercials for McDonald’s. That’s authenticity.

Harris would fall flat on her face if she tried to do the same thing. Gen Z as well as many others would see it as a pandering stunt, which it would be.

I think it went over well because it shows his relating to the everyday concerns of regular people is no act. He was personable. He listened to the trainers and tried to learn. He joked around with staff and customers in a way that wasn't forced.

People see this and then hear the "Trump is Hitler" rhetoric, and they recognize the incongruity.

Makes perfect sense that this would go over well with them.

LOL, I think that stint at MacDonald’s may well be what put him over the edge to win the presidency!

That and Kamala obviously lying about working at MacDonald’s, which would be very easy to verify if true.

If it were true she would have dispelled the allegation with some sort of actual proof be it anecdotal or documentary.

You make a great point here. Whether at McDonald’s, or that barbershop he visited last week, Trump is very personable and easy going when he’s interacting directly with people.

It’s probably because he grew up hanging around construction sites and interacting with service personnel at his hotels that he’s developed this.

I read also that one of the reasons why a bunch of Generals are pissed at him was that he ignored their Afghanistan advice and sought the input from enlisted servicemen before making a decision. This was at least what Sean Spicer told Meghan Kelley on her show a few days ago.

Trump has a great ability to connect with people, which explains why the media does everything they can to push a different impression on people.

Or someone would have come forward and said they remembered working with her, so far no one has.

Just like nobody comes forward and remembers being with Barack Obama when he was in college.

Wayne Allen Root has written on exactly this.

Mr.Root was at Columbia and in Obama’s exact class:

“Root tweeted that he was attending pre-law classes as a political science major — like Obama, supposedly — but that never saw the future president. Obama was my college classmate. Never met him, saw him, heard of him. And I don’t know a single classmate who ever met him either. I repeated this story hundreds of times.”

Mr. Root said he asked his fellow students years later at a reunion if any of them had ever met or even had a class with Obama - to a person they said “no.”

Obama is known as the “Ghost of Columbia.”

It’s interesting that Newsweek asks you to rate the article’s fairness, with choices from left leaning to fair to right leaning. I gave it a “fair” rating, both for the characterization of generational reaction and for the background. They are neutral on the truth of Kamala’s claim, and accurately report that Trump has cast doubt on her claim.

I have heard this story multiple times. George Stephanopolis is on record of not recalling him either. He was in the same class as Root.

Then when he was at Harvard Law he was made the President of Harvard Law Review.
