When I lived and taught in a town on the Yucatan for awhile, I ate food from street vendors all the time and never got sick. The locals pointed out to me which ones were “safe” and which were not.
There was this sweet old lady who sold fresh raw jicama slices with lime and chili sprinkles that were so yummy and refreshing on a hot day. Very dicey food choice if you go to a careless vendor, though, so I would not recommend it.

Went to Burger King in Greeley CO yesterday, they aren’t offering onions either for the same reason.

It’s the quarter pounder, which uses fresh onions. Most of the rest of the menu (including big macs) uses reconstituted onions. Those are pretty much guaranteed safe, unless your batch got reconned 3 or 4 days ago, and they’re supposed to chuck them at the end of the day.

I thought they were saying it was listeria just the other day.
But still nice to be vindicated.
It was indeed the onions not the meat.
