NATIONAL BOSTON CREAM PIE DAY

National Boston Cream Pie Day serves up a delicious dessert on October 23rd each year. Pie lovers, move along. Cake lovers, pull up a chair. Let's celebrate the cake with an identity crisis! Boston Cream Pie is a chocolate frosted, custard-filled cake that is loved by millions.

#BostonCreamPieDay

In 1856, at Boston’s Parker House Hotel, French chef Monsieur Augustine Francois Anezin created this pudding and cake combination.

The decadent cake comprises two layers of sponge cake filled with vanilla-flavored custard or creme patisserie. The cake is then topped with a chocolate glaze, such as a ganache or sometimes powdered sugar and a cherry.

In 1996, Massachusetts declared the Boston Cream Pie as their official dessert.

I was recently in Boston and went to Parker House to have BCP where it originated. Much disappointed. I was served a single, mini pie, and the proportion of sponge to cream was way off. I think a mini is harder to pull off than a full size pie. I think a slice from the latter would have been much better

Boston Cream Pies are also ballistically efficient, with enough mass when thrown to be on target!

Boston Cream Pie is my favorite and I haven’t made one since the mid 70s.

For some reason BCP has been on my mind for a couple of years but every time I look at recipes I put it off, recently I decided to get my feet wet by just making the easiest one possible with cake mix and instant pudding as an ice breaker to see if it is worth making a classier one.

I would love to have a slice- my wife doesn’t like it, so we don’t buy it. It wouldn’t do my waistline any good, either…

I am a FOOL for custard. Just leave me alone with a bowl of it and a big spoon, lol.

That could easily be my last meal. I would die happy.
