No, I believe I have it correct, including his emphasizing the “let.” I can’t immediately find the sound file to verify, however.
Your “quote” is, I believe, your interpretation of why they let him, but even if true, it doesn’t change the fact that it’s not coerced, it’s consensual.

I agree, it is the equivalent of what rock stars say about groupies. They willing go backstage, get on the bus, because it is their chance to touch the famous. I couldn’t imagine even the thought. Nevertheless, it is true.
In Music, Hollywood, Dancing, or on Broadway, people want to get some of that “magic”. To touch what people perceive to be “gods”.
