RSV SHOT -Yes or No for 80+ Husband and Wife?

Posted on 10/19/2024 9:58:07 AM PDT by TNoldman

My Wife and I are in your late 80's. This years when planning to get an annual Flu Shot we were asked to get an RSV also. We did get out Flu Shot yesterday but no RSV was available. Was that a SIGN ?

Would a FReeper(s) with some knowledge contribute to this discussion?

I’d like to think that I am mostly informed. That said, I’ve never heard of RSV until this year..

My husband stopped smoking in the fall of 1968 and I stopped in December of 1968...it possibly was the reason we were so easily put down by it..I don’t remember ever being that sick either.

It’s just a respiratory virus, but it’s the leading cause of deaths in babies. It’s bad for the elderly too.

My 27 yr old twin daughters almost died of it when they were 6 weeks old. One has a brain injury from it.

Basically, if you are sick with a respiratory illness and it’s not flu or Covid, it’s a good chance it’s RSV.

Thanks for the info. Sorry you and your daughters were so profoundly effected by it.

“Well stated.”

Oh, my gosh.

I remember those days! The minute any child in the neighborhood got sick the moms went into ‘Brigade Action Hero’ status and organized sick-ins.

It actually worked. No one got seriously ill and every child I knew went through all the illnesses at one time.

Quite productive, actually.

And not ONE Nanny State Karen in sight.

RSV has been around forever and it puts babies and elderly in ICU for 3-5 days.

It cause so much swelling in infants small airways they suffocate. In the elderly, if their immune system is weakened, it turns into pneumonia pdq.

I’ve had an infant hospitalized and a grandmother die of it.

They push this shot for Medicare and Medicaid savings because it’s cheaper than 5 days in ICU.

I'm sorry for you loss.

I noticed you said that it used to be the called the Croup, and of course I had that many times in my youth.   At 71 I'll chance it without any one of the three vaccines.   As I alluded to, I haven't been sick for a minute since before the Scamdemic started.

Along with the flu shots I have had most years since 1975, I also am a very picky eater and because of that I have been taking vitamins, minerals and other supplements for the past forty plus years, after reading Earl Mindell's Vitamin Bible cover to cover.   Currently 21 pills, capsules, tablets and softgels.   Of course many of them are the same just repeated like Vitamin C and Fish oil.   Some were ordered by my doctor.   I was only told to stop taking one pill through the years and that was calcium.

I only say this because that may have been why I never got Covid.

i get flu shot every year due to lung problems, an most folks will be sick aroudn me, and i might get sick, but get it pretty mild compared to them that didn’t get the shot- I was on meds that caused lung issues like bronchitis, and got a flu one year that i didn’t get the shot, and ended up in ER fighting to breathe- so since then i do get flu shots-

but my nephew got the flu shot just once and got mega sick- he was one sick person for a week or so- so he won’t get them anymore-

I’ve had RSV A couple of times, it is quite unpleasant but I’m healthy enough that I don’t need the vaccine yet for myself, but eventually I may get so old that I will find it’s a good idea.

Planning to get the shingles vaccine as I’ve had 3 friends who all got it in their optic nerve and had to take very expensive anti viral to save their sight. Many of my older relatives had shingles before there was a vaccine so I’m thinking there may be a genetic predisposition or weakness.

The RSV vaccine is mRNA based, the same flawed delivery system as Covid. I caught a wicked upper respiratory bug in Sept. 2024. I think everybody in the neighborhood got it. My guess, RSV. If I were 80, probably would not have survived. Still coughing up crap but, no more vaccines for me. I’ll take my chances without the “marvels of modern medicine.”

One question, how did RSV, which previously affected only children, begin targeting adults? My guess, a young person caught RSV and Covid-19 simultaneously. When that happens, the viruses share genes. The result, Covidized RSV.

I no longer get the Covid shots, but I do get the flu, RSV, shingles, and pneumonia vaccines. I think that the anti-vax folks cause more harm than good. Most are too young to remember when red measles and polio were a scourge in this country.

My two cents.

You should not compare the successful polio and measles vaccines to the novel mRNA-based vaccines. I was not anti-vax until they rolled out the Covid-19 vaccine. My scientific background convinced me that the medical community should never be trusted again. They screwed up. My 0.02$.
