GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/Gray News) – Authorities in Colorado have identified recently sold remains that were found stored in a freezer nearly 10 months ago.
The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office said the grim discovery was made shortly after a home in Grand Junction had been sold in January.
According to deputies, the remains of a human head and set of hands were found by someone who arrived to claim the freezer, which was being offered for free by the new owner of the recently sold property.
Investigators have confirmed the remains belong to Amanda Leariel Overstreet, a girl who had not been heard from since April 2005.
They estimate she was around 16 years old at the time of her disappearance.
“I mean, she was a child. She was 16 years old. She was still a child,” Wendy Likes, information and communications manager for the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, said.
According to the sheriff’s office, Overstreet was the biological daughter of the previous owner of the property where her remains were found.
Neighbor Jameson Perez said there was a foul smell coming from the house when he would walk by. He also shared that the last time he saw the little girl was when she was on her way to school.
Police records indicate Overstreet was never reported missing.
The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.
Excuse me, I have to go hug a few people.
“there is no record that Amanda Overstreet was ever reported missing”, ...
So someone in the family killed her, dismembered her, and kept her body in their freezer.
Why report yourself?
Somebody go get the previous owners.
And “Overstreet was the biological daughter of the previous owner of the property”
She was apparently taken in by her grandmother and formally adopted by her at some point.
The grandmother was a geometry teacher in Kountze, Texas.
But the grandmother had cancer and died of it in 2005, the same year the girl disappeared.
So they sold their home and just forgot there were body parts in the freezer?
This article raises more questions than it answers.
The poor child.
Her grandmother /adoptive mom was Half a O Overstreet.
Her bio mother is LeAnn or LeAnne Overstreet.
10 yrs ago, reportedly, friends were looking for her and were brushed off by LeAnne, who allegedly told them the girl had run away.
“Half a O Overstreet” should be Nelda Overstreet.
I hate predictive text.
The home was bought in foreclosure sale by a local real estate investor. It was owned by a man and his wife. He died a while back. The widow and her son lived there. Why they left the remains is the question. The real estate investor posted on Facebook that everything in the repod house was free to anyone who wanted it. The freezer was being emptied by someone who was going to take it. The head and arms were in it with a bunch of other meats.
Probably ditched the body somewhere but hung onto the head and hands in the hope of making it harder to identify the body if the body was found.
Yes. (questions)
The dad did it.
I call it Auto Correct Otto Corrupt.
May whoever killed this innocent girl burn forever in Hades.
Perhaps.
A follow up to w weird story.
