Have to skip to the end to get past the selfish excuses people make for not javing kids. Given that, I’m not sure they will do well as parents.
Is love so out of the equation for young people today?
For most part, yes.
You mean the children or the spouse?
KWED — kids with enormous debt
bingo, selfish is the attitude for sure. I have a daughter that doesn’t want kids which is a damned shame.
Not everyone has kids and for different reasons.
Some are sad reasons that have to do with physical and/or psychological health.
But if it makes some feel better to take slings and arrows towrads then, so be it.
“my husband told me he’d be happy with or without them, as long as we stayed happily married. At the risk of sounding flaky, I don’t have a good explanation for why I changed my mind about children.”
You probably wisely realized that one day, that husband would knock up that hot new young girl at Starbucks when you hit your control freak stage. The instinct to breed doesn’t vanish for most sane people.
Perhaps one of the main reasons people choose to not have children is because they fear of having to grow up. If you’re a normal human being with a sense of responsibility, having children forces you to have to behave like a mature adult and not like a carefree college student.
They have three children at present.
The wife gave up a full scholarship as a pianist in preference of being a full time wife and mother.
Wonderful family. I try to spend a few days with them each year.
Perhaps I should make clear: his son and his son’s wife.
Having or not having children is one of those excellent things to figure out before marriage.
My grandson was bit loose and fancy free until he met a girl in the spring, then she moved down here and now they find out they’re going to have a baby. They’re both very happy but my grandson is now realizing that he’s going to have to get a real job. He has a 3-month a year job which is very lucrative but not for a family. When he wasn’t traveling around the other nine months hanging out hunting and fishing with his friends all over the country he still lived with his parents at 28 years old.
DORK => Dual Offspring, Redundant Kids.
A “fur baby” mom derided our family of five children for many years. Until she had a baby and the baby girl got old enough to throw her arms around mommies neck and say “I love you mommy”. The woman hunted me up and apologized for her remarks so long ago and told me that there was a huge difference between the “fur babies” and the real one.
Silly comment by the author, given the magnitude of the slaughters in the 20th Century.
I forgot who said it:
Children are the fireworks we launch into the oncoming darkness.
And yes, it does inforce a degree of responsible maturity on a person.
Which is a testimony to the decline in American character, having entered into an era of an unprecedented high standard of living, in which pleasure without consequences is demanded, and unselfish sacrifice is rare, aside from a remnant of Christian devout, and those who are indoctrinated and baptized into the ethos and pathos of Climategeddon doctrine. Which, along with most of the rest, tend to avoid having children, or more than one or two, which are spoiled, thus fostering the decline of a nation.
Oh, I think maybe you missed the point.
Even the most proud self-sufficient parents at one one or another experienced at least one panic attack about the thought of being a good parent or of having a child grow up to cause chaos even if they (the parents did everything correctly).
The difference is there are three types of those folks: Those that can’t get past those fears and those that use those fears for what they perceive to gain. The third is the most valuable because they are those who while they might be terrified still walk over that abyss on the very small and frail looking bridge into parenthood.
Some children are concieved in violent circumstances, some in love, some in careles sexual encounters and some as for-profit.
Some parents are bad, some are good, some truly horrific and some majestic in their ability to raise children.
When I hear of someone admitting to all the various reasons they could have used to avoid a child and then have it...?
It’s confirmation of why the LORD God created mankind in His image.
I will get off my soapbox.
