Those weren’t the words I expected to hear from my server at San Francisco’s buzzy Ko in the Mission District, but I quickly learned that if you plan to visit the all-you-can-eat restaurant during its $25 happy hour deal, be prepared for some unforeseen ground rules. Allow me to start from the beginning.
Ko first came onto my radar one evening as I idly scrolled through Instagram, only pausing when a video titled “$25 AYCE sushi + drinks” caught my eye. What followed was a montage of fresh salmon sashimi, tuna nigiri, chicken karaage and shrimp yakitori plates that seemed to cover every inch of the table. The restaurant’s interior was just as impressive, with a display of vibrant paper lanterns hovering over diners.

When the server appeared, I asked for a box to take home the remaining bits of food on my plate. Mind you, I know most all-you-can-eat restaurants have a strict no-takeout rule, but I figured asking couldn’t hurt. He told me I would be charged an extra $5 for every order I wanted to take home in a box. He explained that the $25 special was already such a great deal, that the extra fee was justified. Moments later, he reappeared at our table and asked if I still wanted a box, but I politely declined.
Up until then, our waiter had been friendly while exuding a quality of cool nonchalance. But my response was not met with compassion. He became dry and proceeded to scold me on the amount of food I ordered, adding that Ko had a big problem with food waste. He pointed toward Mission Street while explaining that many individuals didn’t have enough to eat.

Their problem with food waste was of their own making. Kind of surprising they’d rather take some of that food back than give you a doggy bag....unless they were planning to serve it to someone else later. They pull this a few times & they could easily be out of business. Plainly looks to me like they were planning to sell a lot of doggy bag & if that doesn’t happen, then they better rescind that “special” while they still have a business.

Everybody knows you don’t get to carry out from a buffet. And that is what this is.... a sit down buffet.
Typical entitled 20 something libtard trying to screw them over.
Funny story, I knew of this big fat cop who was at a Chinese Buffet. The owner watched horrified as he made trip after trip to the food bar. Crab legs, mussels, seafood, all the beef dishes that cant be mistaken for cat, skipped right by the rice that might fill him up.
Finally the owner lost it and said “Hey! It’s all you can eat, NOT eat all you can!”

Ahhhh.. driving on the Autobahn was sheer bliss. Someone coming up from behind, move right in complete confidence that nobody will pass you on that side. Overtaking someone, it is guaranteed they will move right.

And honestly, if there was enough food left on her plate, the $5 wasn't a bad deal. Most take out is double that these days.
And clearly, we are seeing someone here who's never been held accountable for her actions or told she was wrong.
Writer is an amateur. The restaurants knows most people cannot eat that much....they give free water or soda and doughy or veggie stuff to fill your gut. Usually an obvious posted sign stating “no food can be taken out”.
The writer twit was offended by his well deserved dressing down. Total dope. Reminds me of the Phil Hendrie character, Steve Bosell, who sues people who offend him.

It sounds like they are just trying to get rid of a particular item (or items). Maybe a day or so past its "best sold by date" if you catch my drift.

I think it’s a reasonable assumption that the magazine for which she writes is just as entitled as she is.
I think I saw her at Wendy’s taking her free water cup and refilling it multiple times with soda at the fountain.
